Boomer skills millenials just won't use.

It's even worse without pennies they don't know how to round up to the nearest 5c.

I remember when the penny first went away and rounding happened, there was a Subway that I ate lunch at fairly often that had their cash register misconfigured to round 2 cent charges up to 5 cents, so (for example), something that charged at $6.02 was being rounded to $6.05 instead of $6.00 even.

I brought it up with the kid at the cash register and tried to explain that rouding worked two ways, but you'd think that I was trying to explain trigonometry to them or something as the kid assured me that everything rounded up, and only up, because "that's how rounding works".

So I'm the oldest of the millennials!? I'll be 44 this year....

Me lol

Ever try to get a cashier to follow the "Scanning Code of Practice" when the price is wrong? Wrong price - up to $10 it's free.
It's right there on a sticker behind them but they're convinced you're trying to steal from them. Had a manager at HD read it and then try to tell me it meant something else. NOPE it's free!

Been there.

I just tell them "OK no problem, I'll wait until you can get someone senior to help with the confusion", and then politely stand there.

Eventually I've always found someone able to make it happen as otherwise it gets uncomfortable after a period of time lol.

Amazingly, kids born from about 1998 had little recall development on basic arithmetic -- they were never tested on recall fo single-digit arithmetic.

As an employer, you can sometimes see big productivity losses in those millennials. I recently observed a physical inventory in one of our plants, the 60 year olds with grade 9 education could estimate, add, and multiply without a calculator. The young guy's estimation skills were hopeless, and if they had to tally 7 boxes with 60 parts/box they needed calculators.
One thing about having young kids, we tend to do addition and multiplication (and even division) random challenges here and there.
Like outta no where theyll be "DAD WHATS 40 X 76" lol and im like ..uughhhhhh loadiiinggg
ahahah
But they'll also try with simpler ones (single to double digit mutiplication etc)
And i still got it #borninthe80s

There's this show on netflix called number blocks and i feel like it's been burned into their memory

I invoiced a client showing 3:45 on site. The invoice showed 3.75 hours. I got a call about overcharging.

I stopped for a coffee and donut and the young chick asked for $7.85. It wasn't Starbucks and the order of magnitude didn't phase her. She had forgotten to clear the previous purchase.

The worst part is the lack of understanding of compound interest rates and the financial dripping tap, The dripping tap being "It's only two dollars and I only spend that three times a day" Six dollars X 365 =$2190 a year.

Topping it all would be the cheque cashing places loaning people $200 for two weeks at the bargain price of $20. How do I start one of those?
