BMW S1000RR Owners - Tell me what you know!

He *is* wrong, as far as track participation. I have several times seen more Aprilias at a track day than BMW S1000RRs. I've seen it the other way around, too. The bikes I've seen blown up are S1000RRs. YMMV.

Well, you said he was wrong. First word. With a period.

There is no point discussing Apes with Shamman, he's seen more RSV4 at a couple track days over the last few months but he 'll say he's seen more RSV4s at most track days over the past few years.

Murf: Eff u. Don't put words in my mouth.

And Trombino would have had an Ape but there was more prep work to do, so ended up back on the Suzuki.

Not that it matters to me. I like what I like because... I like it. I don't really care what other people do... blow up as many BMWs as you want. ;)

I have seen it rain in Las Vegas. It's still a desert.

Let's start a thread on which oil is the best.........oh boy!

Never really come across any BMW owners expressing disappointment in their bikes. My motor blew up, my brakes suck, mine doesn't pull well down the straight or it doesn't really handle that well.

If you got the cash, know what you like, can make the adjustments for your personal taste in suspension etc, pull the trigger.

They aren't there to make sure the bikes aren't beaten on all day long In hot weather by people who don't care about the bike. So I would say that shows a lot of reliability. BMW has no reps or mechanics there its all California superbike staff.

Just because they are not there 9-5 doesn't mean they are not there at all.

Also, from what I know, during the first levels of the course, they "prohibit" the use of brakes, and all that people do is just open or close throttle and practice lines. Pretty sure any bike will go 200k without an issue like that =)

Shaman, if that was DOCC at Calabogie, there were 5 S1000s that day too. I have one and really enjoy it. No concerns, runs well and easy to ride. But then I'm not the fastest one around.

To answer Mina - early 2010s had some engine issues, all repaired by BMW. Also a few 2012s (serial numbers published) that were also repaired at no cost.
If you want to buy used, I'd go for a 2011, it will still have over a year of warranty and also the heavier crank so it's smoother. The only issue on the 2011 was BMW gives every owner a new rad cap at no cost. I've had no issues with the electronics whatsoever, of course if you look hard enough you'll find someone whining about something on the internet.... pm me if you have any questions.

I was there. I saw one, then another showed up. Where the other three were hiding, I've got no idea.

Unless you want to use it on track. The 2012 is a much better bike for that. Chassis tweaks, electronics tweaks and also engine tweaks for better handling.

Marcel Irnie is not a whiner... he had major engine and electronic problems with his 2012.

5 BMWs huh?

Ya I was at that event too. There were 5 BMW's. Typically there are more than that at the DOCC events. Those bikes run strong! And that quick shifter sounds great. One of the guys running at calibogie on the grey BMW with orange rims races in the CSBK national superbike series. That guy was fast!
But anyways the last 2 years with docc there are some guys really pushing those S1000's hard, and I have yet to see anyone have any reliability issues on the track. Although I did see one crash at mosport. Sad sight to see such a great bike smashed up.

So I repeat, where were they hiding? I was all through the pits and saw all run groups.

Wrong. It's no brakes for first sessions of the day. you really think BMW a multi billion dollar company making 10's of thousands of vehicles cares that much about a handful of bikes at California superbike school????? Take off the tinfoil hat

I'd appreciate it if you'd stop having wet dreams about me. Very creepy.

Shaman, you're right that a 2012 would be the better track bike than the 2010 or 2011 as there were some small changes made to the suspension geometry and the ECU programming. Mere mortals may not feel those subtle changes, but they are there. For the cost of the 2012's used, you're almost in the new bike price range without the 3 year warranty. That's why I said the 2011 would be the best deal. Mina, I'm trying hard to keep this on topic for you.

^ Thanks man, I'm not commenting because my mind is already made up. Now I'm just looking for a decent deal. Will most likely pull the trigger towards the end of the season. Again, a lot of useful information was posted, whether it's negative or positive, it doesn't matter, but I think I'll take my chance.

Thanks!
