I forgot what a nightmare used bike shopping is. I bought my 06- R6 in 2012, and people are asking over 2k more for a 04-R6. At what point do you just give up and by brand new?

I am considering a ducati 848 evo 2010, anyone know the market value for a used with 0-5,000kms.

So now you are going to buy brand new or ducati and park it in the same condo garage? What do you think will happen with your new bike?

Good question. Def going to bring this to the attention of the Condo Board to improve security. I had a bike there for over 2 years with no issues.

When I was car shopping, I gave up on used when most were priced very close to new (some actually higher than new).

EDIT: Slayer, buy whatever you want, if it gets stolen again, claim again, there is not much else you can do. I would suspect thieves aren't entirely picky and any SS bike is a target for theft.

For what it's worth, my co-worker made her husband sell his 2012 848 - resale red / black rims.
$12,500 was the final price. He had very low kms. < 2500 kms. Bone Stock.

9~10 is a pretty good deal with low kms I would think

Id buy that in a second. Hey if anyone cares to lend a hand, I can offer a finder/helper fee. Just starting a new job and with no car/bike its a pain in the *** to find one and check it out.

ya the used market is insane right now. i know people that sold bikes a few years ago that could have sold them for more now.

i grabbed my 09 600r this year for a little over 8grand with something like 3200km on it.
i was coming across 2011 gsxrs with the same mileage for the same price but they were all wrecks.

if it wasnt for the price of the taxes..pdi and all that on new i would have pulled the trigger on the 2012 models.

I am on my second bike both of hem bought new, used prices are so close to new. Sometimes f+pdi can be included in the price f the bike, got them with both 2nd bike was actually less than msrp including pdi. F there was no hst everytime a bike was sold it would make a diff. In price.

2012 ninja special ed last yr 5000 plus hst.
2012 Duc Monster 696 this yr April 9500 plus hst even the $100 admin was taken off the bill. Ninja traded towards the bike for just under 4000 incl taxes.

For some reasons bike prices are just out of whack.

Last yr when i was looking 2011 ninja prices were n the range of 4300-4800 and up and 09 were about 4000+ just didn't make sense to buy used when u adds the safety and taxes.
Duc is a different story was just browsing and we started taliking got a good trade value so. Bit the bullet.
Very happy with the Duc.

A co-worker was toying with the idea to sell his R6 for $7000

Since a 600R doesn't exist... I'm not sure what he bought.

Seriously though, if you live downtown in a condo and have a new-ish ducati or GSXR, you're likely faced with 3 choices.

1- Find a way to park it way back in some nook or behind your car where there is no possible way for guys to get in there and lift it or push it out
2- Hire a 24 hour guard to watch over your bike
3- Expect to go bike shopping on insurance company dollars at least once every 2 yrs until they cut you off (don't even THINK of not buying theft)

Pretty much everyone I know who's long parked one of these two bikes downtown long term has had them go missing in under a year. Doesn't matter if they have lo jack, screamer locks, or inch-thick hardened chains bolted to the ground. The condo security has to watch the whole building's cameras, do rounds, deal with any issues that come up over night etc... There's only so much they can do and all it takes is 5-6 min.

I am not trying to discourage you, but you should know what you are getting into. Regardless, best of luck with your purchase and have a great time with it!

I did option 1 last time I went on holiday. Had a friend park is truck right up against my bike.

Honestly, in the end of the day thank goodness I was not at fault and there was no injury. But its just a freaking hassle that pisses me off. I spent the last 12 months working 60 hours and doing a masters on top of that. Was looking forward to having one weekend to myself stress free... and this. Just ****s up my flow.
