I sincerely doubt that anyone is stupid enough to leave their keys in their bike on purpose, however you seem to be bound and determined to prove me wrong.

Your 'choice' is a great way to get your vehicle stolen, aka an insurance payout. Aka willfully contributing to higher rates for everyone.

Yes, it's your choice, but people care enough to protect your investment. Don't be angry if someone do that to you. It's all good.
I'd argue that mostly all stolen bikes don't have keys in them, Argument null.
Leave em. If everyone does this then no one has a problem and they are still where I left them.
If someone wants to do something illegal like take the bike they are going to. With or usually without keys.
My keys have been on the mat of my vehicle for three days now. Prob going to spend the next three days there too. Only time I take them with is if I need one of the other keys.

Plot twist, the bike you found the key in was actually stolen because the owner left the key in, and the thief/joyrider left it there after he/she was done. Sometimes having the best intentions can backfire and now you are involved.
As much as the little guy with the halo on my shoulder tells me to secure the key, I think I would just mind my own and leave it there.

They could at least trace the owner (if they bothered to show up) ?

I like the keys they put on sea-doo's, Is just a simple little magnet.
You end up having to pack a 3 pound cable lock if you hope to leave it docked anywhere unattended.
... and what if you do see somebody trying to steal your stuff, what are you going to do? might be wise to have a plan or two.

Calling non-emergency police line has always got me very quickly to a person. That being said, this course of action is probably the biggest pain in the ass. On the small chance police do actually show up, if they take the key, getting it back will be a royal pain and I wouldn't be surprised if they towed it and you had to pay to get it back.

As far as "contributing to higher rates for everyone" is concerned... I'm only concerned about "my" insurance costs...
