/knockoff gopro. Anyone have experience with the no name walmart ones or the super cheap like $40 Chinese ones off sites like aliexpress?

Obviously I'm not expecting the video quality or features of a $400 camera. I just want to record a few races a year for my own enjoyment but my cheapness is getting in the way.

Go on youtube and look up Emerson videos. I am surprised at the decent quality video it puts out for $60 at the Showcase/As sseen on TV stores.

Can these cheaper cameras run the same headstrap as gopro?

Used Contour Roam 2 will run you around $100. Great basic camera.

I like the ROAMS are good, somewhat stealth when mounted. Mounted mine recently got ripped off by a kijiji seller and bought a roam with broken usb port I didn't realize until it was time to charge it :( But hardwired it now... its actually more convenient not ever needing to charge it anymore :) I just hit the format button every few days and it cleans the 32gb card for me. I think this would be good for track, I like that its more stable than helmet mounted and I don't get dizzy trying to watch it.

These are very favourably reviewed as best bang for the buck.

Go Pro spends a fortune on marketing, and that's reflected in the price. The actual HD cameras on these things are $15 or less.

Techmoan

he does good reviews. Mostly unbiased reviews. Includes test footage.

most of the products are inexpensive cameras made in china.

I wouldn't go that far. Their sensors and optics are pretty high-end. I played with my buddy's Hero 3+ and it smokes my Roam 2, especially in low-light.

But for general Youtube-ing, the Roam 2 is more than adequate. Love the foolproof interface and the crazy battery life.

The size of the contour is what makes it appealing to me. Simple to use and rather small.

they are just versions from the cell phone industry.

No. Gopros are overpriced and have crap audio.

Search Amazon.com and look at the user reviews.

So is there like a universal headstrap for cameras or do all of them have some proprietary mounts?
