Be Careful - got hit at a red

I haven't been on the site in a while, but I just want everyone to be careful just always check behind you when you stop.

...other day going home from work at 1 pm..

I was South on Rees St. behind 6 - 7 cars waiting for the lights. If you know this street you know it's just ends at the Rogers Centre. So there is no way a car can pick up speed.

I was there for a good 20 seconds full stop... I wasn't looking at my rear view mirrors (figured who can possibly hit me coming from a stop sign turn. I was WRONG. Felt my bike fly underneath me. My first reaction was jump... I landed on my feet but my bike went down.
Seriously I think he was texting, cell phone on his lap...
Cops came because I think the construction guys across the street saw it... I didn't press any charges because the guy I wasn't seriously hurt and I have too many other things too deal with.

Just everyone be careful out there!

He is paying for everything.

Yikes man, glad you weren't hurt!!! I never look in my mirrors when I'm stopped, I guess I better start!

I'm freaking baffled at the number of cagers I see still playing with their phones every day. I wish the fine was 2 grand instead of a piddly $150. Make it a major infraction so people take it more seriously.

Glad you are okay. I am always thinking about this when stopped on the road. My own sister hit a motorcyclist at a red light a few years back. Her excuse "I didn't see him" Well ****ing pay attention then!

My sister, my girlfriend, my father, my mother, my grandfather, most of my friends. Everyone I know, when the are driving a car, it scares the crap out of me how bad they are at it. Maybe I am too and I just don't know it. But man, cagers are scary!

They seem to have forgotten about this law or drivers have forgotten. Right when the law came in there was a noticeably lower number of people texting while driving. Now, every 30 min ride, I would see AT LEAST 3 or 4 people driving while doing things on their phone. The worst Ive seen was probably the guy I saw browsing his facebook while driving (I was right behind him just looking at what he was doing..). Swerving into other lanes with vehicles beside him, very abrupt stops and riding the brakes every 2 seconds with no one in front of him...

They should really enforce this as this law has pretty much been swept under the rug. I've seen multiple instances where people were clearly on their phones with cops right beside them at a red light and nothing was said or done.

PS. Glad you're okay OP. Awesome reaction if it lands you on your feet.

no one cares about the cell phone laws. 5 out of 10 people at the very least are texting and driving. just look around when you drive. i been saying this all along this is a bigger issue then drinking and driving.

everyone 25 and under is doing it and if they cause an accident there is noway to prove anything to nail the driver

Police have used cell phone call records to determine usage at time of accidents.

I'm 21 and am not on my phone while driving... It comes down to awareness of the consequences of your actions. I have gotten into a single vehicle accident (in a car) due to black ice at 40-45km/h (5 houses away from my house on my way home... boy was I ******... $12000 in damges) and have experienced first hand of the kind of damage an accident can cause. Many people drive the way they do because nothing bad has ever happened to them and in their mind, it never will, so they'll continue to do what their doing until

Txting and driving is a huge issue. Maybe not just a fine but points as well. Staying connected 24/7 seems to be more important then paying attention to the now. It's sad. OP - glad you have cat reflexes. We all hope we are able to do the same. Cheers.
 
Agree with everything said here except pressing the guy that hit you to the full extent.
My guess - judging from the photo - he was back on the cell/texting in the area 10 minutes later.

What happens when you crash and no one can call emergency because of your jammer? And cops get there and ticket you for illegal jammer.

Even the future depreciation of your bike?

When a bike has been repaired or repainted (accident), people will pay you less in the future because everybody wants a mint used bike, and there are so many of them out there

Make sure he actually covers your expenses

I let a guy off easy once when he hit my cage, he made a right turn on a red without slowing down and then tried to make a U Turn in front of my. He grazed the license plate of my car and smudged the letters and numbers across his bumper. I should have got his info and at the very least made him replace my license plates. At the time, I had my girlfriend, mom and sister in the car as I was driving them to Canadian Tire and I was going to driving my girlfriend to work. I didn't want her to be late so I just shook the guys hand and told him to be more careful.

I regret that decision now. I hope you don't regret yours in the future.

always watch your mirrors when stopped. And point your bike to be able to lane split. Twice now I have seen a car locked up behind me so I lane split outta the way and watched the car I was stopped behind get crunched. Almost as dangerous as people turning left in front of you!
 
Glad that you are okay. Worst thing I've seen is a TTC bus driver rearranging his iPhone home screen icons around. Couldn't believe it..

He won't have anything to regret because it is not his decision to make. In Canada, it is up to the police to lay charges. The civilian can't "press charges" like they do in the States. It was up to the officer to lay the charges, and frankly, he should have. That was careless driving, and a bike would have been charged for that.

This is so wrong on many levels.

IMHO, charges should have been laid. I would have insisted on it.

Just because you didn't get it hurt, its ok?

But if he did kill you, he should get charged?

crazy.
