In the below video, this guy mentioned how the Bazzaz Z-Fi fuel control unit gave the bike a lot of extra power at the cost of fuel economy.

After years of modding car and bikes for performance, I suggest leaving the bike alone. It's not worth the money or the hassle. When Orangepeel grows out of the power of the 250, swap to a different bike. Or at least leave it as is until the end of next season.

If you want to do it just for the fun and interest sake, go ahead, but modding a bike for more power just isn't worth it. Now handling and braking might be a good idea after you get a professional to set it up.

Yea, I kinda figured that. Thanks.

Can't imagine a bigger waste of money myself....

I kinda wondered when he was going to attempt to overclock my bike ;).

You can take the geek away from the computer, but ya can't take the computer out of the geek, lol.

If you mod that bike and need to change the fuel delivery, there are other alternatives that will work and are a lot less expensive. I have an Electronic Jet Kit controller on my weeber. No, you can't change individual cells in increments of RPM and throttle position like the Bazzaz and Power Commander products can ... but the things that most people do to most bikes, don't need that anyway. http://www.electronicjetkit.com/

"A lot of extra power" and "cbr250" just don't belong together in the same sentence. Leave the bike stock and buy something bigger when you're more comfortable/more experienced. Put the money you saved into a more intermediate machine when the time comes.

I have a CBR250 (and work for Bazzaz). I'm not the only one looking for more power but still loving the 250 (my last bike was a CBR600RR). I put an FMF full exhaust and our Z-Fi fuel controller with quick shift on the 250. It is a totally different bike. I've had guys who've been in the pro racing industry for a lot of years ride it and love how fun it is. But with the stock exhaust it just wasn't cutting it.

I really can't agree with not wanting to mod the bike just because it is a 250. It's still a sport bike. If folks don't want fast and fun, why not get a scooter or a cruiser?

From what I can see (correct me if I'm wrong) but with the Akro slip-on and Bazzaz unit dyno tune in the video isted it shows a gain of ~2.5hp and 1.5ft/lb and at what cost, over $1000 likely. And you want people to pay double that for only marginally more? I stick by my previous post of people should save their cash and move up to a better bike when they get more experience (and they"re not just getting more power with a bigger bike either, they're getting improved suspension and brakes in most cases as well for the same cost, or cheaper, than adding all those mods to their 250's).

^ The same logic applies to ANY bike. By this logic you should never modify ANYthing.

Logic doesn't always make sense. Sometimes it's fun to do things that aren't the most "logical" thing to do.

Besides, there's something about a small single cylinder bike that no inline-four can replicate. Sound, for one thing. And they're skinny and light and tossable. And the insurance rates. And EVERYbody has a 600. And they're simple to work on ... one piston, one spark plug, one throttle body with one injector, and there's space around the engine to get your fingers in so that you actually CAN work on them. You can carry the engine with one arm. If the bike is in the wrong spot, you can just pick it up and put it where you want it.

If a bike is a keeper then there's nothing wrong with modding it.

I agree with this in general, but we are talking about a specific case here. First time rider. In this case at this time, suggesting a mod for horsepower is just crazy talk. Knowing the rider and her 'riding partner', I can't imagine this bike will last much longer than her learning period either before it gets traded up.

Your Bazzaz questions should be directed to "spinto" from this board .. John i believe is a local distrubter of these products.

Not sure how much he logs onto this board anymore though ..
