Basecamp

I still find Garmin's "Basecamp" a bit of a pain in the *ss to use, but I like playing around and planning routes for my longer road trips...

Have any of y'all used any of the tools that convert maps made in Google maps to .gpx ?

Any recommendations or warnings?

I never got used to BC either.

To be honest, I still use Mapsource. Even though it's long since discontinued, it still works like a charm. It's intuitive and doesn't chew up a ton of resources like BC.

You can download a copy here:

You dont need a license disc. Use Winzup and unzip the file into a directory. Then run the MSIMain.exe directly and it won't ask you for a license disc.

I use MyMaps in Google Maps to go back and forth between KML and GPX. Works well.

What’s KML?

Basecamp always confused me too but with some tech stuff that’s not hard.

Usually I can find a gpx route online that’s not too far away from what I want to do.

Maybe I’m hallucinating but years ago I thought you could make a rough route in Google Maps then zoom in and use a finger to move waypoints to where you wanted and save that as a route and it was easy peasy. My hallucination also tells me that this didn’t last too long as a feature.

I have been using this web site to convert Google Maps URL's to GPX files that import into Basecamp.

I find it works very well.

I'm kinda *ucked in tge head maybe...
I mean, really... I can get to where im going by reading the road signs, but still I gotta look at maps and do the whole GPS thing... lol

I couldn't figure out Basecamp either (I even watched the 5 or so YT videos on how to use it). I just try to remember the turns after looking at google maps and if I make a wrong turn it's just part of the adventure (hmmm maybe that's why I mostly ride solo now).
