Barrie man killed in crash that also left several friends with serious injuries

Outrageous. 24 in a BMW texting while driving kills one and maims several more, and gets away with it. ****ing classic Ontario.

Vehicles need to be classified as restricted weapons or something, before the law gets the message that it's not OK to kill people by accident with a car.

"She noted that even Rogers admitted he had been using his cellphone while driving that day, however the judge could not find beyond reasonable doubt that he was using it at the time of the crash."

really? how about you check the time the accident happened then get the records from the cell phone company and match the two up?

I bet the 24yr old's family got connections. The justice system sadly has always been 2-tiers... one for the "priviledge" few, one for the rest of the masses like you and I.

People should be outraged by this verdict.

How would you be able to tell if the guy glanced at a text at the time of the accident? The only way he could be criminally charged is if there is evidence proving he was using his phone.. beyond reasonable doubt. Such BS but that's the law.

This is a wake up call, I'm sure most of us are guilty of at least looking at our phones while driving. Prayers go out to the families.

good point

find out where this mother****er lives...This warrants street justice. Slashed tires, broken windows and a paintballed car at the very least...if no one can get their hands on him.

Not so, people have been getting off on that charge for years. The burden of proof/standard for dangerous driving with or without death is much too high, hence the plea bargains that are equally disgusting

How did the crown attorney **** that up? A man died, due to the fact that some stupid punk had to use his phone while driving and there are no repercussions?? That is just pathetic.

I hope that 24 year old ends up getting killed in a car crash.

How the heck did it take 3 years to come to a conclusion? A person dies and driver is free to go without a wreck less driving charge? Surely you have to be guilty of something!

You need to provide Mens Rea and Actus Reas ( physical, and mental motivation for the crime ) for a criminal conviction to fly. If you can't prove he wanted to do it, or did it intentionally he will get off on the criminal charge. Make no doubts he probably still got a ton of fines from the Highway Traffic Act as he is still liable for what he did, he is just not getting any jail time.

when are they going to make an example out of some faking retard
to show the rest its not okay to kill bikers
reading crap like this makes me think that its okay to text and kill ppl with my car

that isn't street justice btw. that's called being a pussy in doing something about it.

street justice is dragging him out of this house, give him the beating of his life, and 'the finish him' move would be putting his head on the curb and 'stomp'.

So incredibly sad everybody had to suffer so much and then the court compounds the pain. Gutted.

I keep coming back to this thread wanting to make an observation but thought it would be inappropriate but can't stand it anymore. I always see riders hugging the center line and for the life of me can't figure that out. Also riding two abreast greatly reduces you escape options.

Very sad story. I remember the day it happened and hearing it on the radio. Once again the courts dropped the ball.

I guess the only "justice" we can hope for is a super high insurance rate for years to come. But that probably won't happen either. Probably gets a better rate then most of us with clean records.
