Back/Chest Protector Question/Recommendation

Hey guys,

In addition to the post here (http://www.gtamotorcycle.com/vbforu...39-how-many-people-wear-back-protectors/page3) I'm currently in the market for upper body protection and curious about your thoughts...

Would you recommend just upgrading the protection pads in the jacket (just bought an ICON Textile jacket and still looking for a leather one) with the hard plastic ones?
Or would you recommend removing the inserts and replacing them with a chest/back protection vest instead?

Primarily commuting to/from work and 90% of the riding will be on city streets with the remainder on the highway.

If you're mostly riding city streets and commuting I think that the armour that comes in the jacket should be enough. Protection is important but you also need to be comfortable or you'll start cheating and not wearing it because its, big, hot, uncomfortable, etc

+1 I ended up buying a back protector for wearing on long highway rides, but then found I never wore it because it was just that one extra step between me and the bike. In place I've replaced my in jacket back protector with a CE one, it was cheap so it's probably not the best but its something and I actually wear it.

And that's my measure of good gear: If it's hanging on the back of your door, at home, then it's doing no good. Buy the best gear you can afford, that you will consistently wear.
