Armoured vest

I guess you've been thinking about shorts & jackets only
Accurate. I've done it once in shorts at 1AM to see what it felt like. Felt naked.

Glad my most expensive piece of gear are my riding pants lol (my a* jacket is already starting to fall apart :( )

Once upon a time I used to go for ride in shorts when I finished washing the bike. I was burnt by my exhaust not once but twice. I did not know how hot an exhaust could get until getting burnt. Took at least 4 yrs for the scars to leave

Ouch! Was lucky enough to not get burnt :P any passenger i take around the block though i always warn (although it usually doesnt get that high in temp)

Lol. Then why do they force 'us' to wear back protectors at race tracks if the risk is so low? Remember, there aren't any soccer moms, transport trucks, etc at the track, just other bikes.
The point of the back protector is to disperse the impact against your back. It essentially spreads 20 pounds of force directed at one spot on your back into 1 pound of force across a wider area.
I would love someone to explain to me how protecting your limbs from abrasion are more important than protecting your spine.

I wasn't saying wear one or the other. I was just trying to figure out how wearing just a T-shirt is ok, while wearing a vest with a protector in it is 'dumb'

who forced you to wear a back protector at the track???

squids be like:

lol

What about a armoured hoodie or shirt like I've seen they have shoulder/elbow/back might be a bit cooler and a bit lighter to wear then my big jacket ....

So you don't want to wear a jacket but you're willing to wear an armoured hoodie instead?

Jacket I have I get silly hot wearing it it is mesh as well lol but thought maybe a vest over my tshirt be ok and then see the armoured shirts and etc and thought they would work better for air and etc compared to my jacket is all N hence why Iam asking opinions before buying :)

Well the mesh is made to breathe better than a shirt or a hoodie (armored or not) IMO as a proper mesh jacket will try to make the air flow extensively while there's movement.
At a standstill, you're SOL

Maybe it don't help that my jacket is old ..... I got it from the owner of my hayabusa I had which was 6 years ago now and no idea how old the jacket was when I got it lol but maybe it don't "breathe" like a newer one does ? I dunno honestly

I really, really, really hope you washed that jacket first... lol

Get that vest bud, nobody wants to see your arse crack with your t shirt on

@wantsabike: Wearing an armoured vest is like wearing a t-shirt with some protection. It's light and comfortable, not much skin protection (depending on the kind you take) as a jacket but you get the cool and comfort factor in it. Hope you were able to find the information you're looking for and don't worry about arguments in this forum, that's what happen when you have many passionate people to talk on a passionate and dividing subject ?

personally, if i were you, id get a new mesh jacket with good reviews.
gonna be more versatile

Same here. As you ride with the vent open, you get to feel the ventilation inside + you are protected. So many time I want to give in the armoured vest but it's better to be well suit up in case something comes up (which you never know when). Does your jacket has a removable inside liner?

Of course I did ? I washed it twice on heavy soil setting before using it ? Common sense lol sheesh

Yikes! I handwash my gear using Woolite (with the removable armor taken out of course). Not sure I would want to wash that stuff in a washing machine (at least not my old one).

Yeah my gear says on the label to handwash, but im guessing that a hand me down that was already old would not rank high on the list of "things that need to be cherished"

OH AND ALSO, random fact (and i dont know if it translates to that type of fabric) but liquid FABRIC SOFTENER is not to be used with activewear as it reduces the efficiency of the wicking properties of the material.
