Anyone using mesh jackets or pants in this heat? Recommendations...

No kidding! I picked up a white mesh jacket myself and it boggles my mind to see black mesh jackets. If it's so hot that you need it, then wearing dark colours sure isn't going to help.

Hmmm...

I like the look of the Icon Hooligan 2 jacket. The weak point of it is non CE armour in the back. Easily rectified with the Icon D3O back insert you can get (then again I am going to use it in conjunction with my Icon Stryker vest anyways).

The blue would match my helmet and bike nicely (instead of black):

The white is likely cooler but yikes... Probably a headache to keep it clean with bugs splattering on it etc...

Mine is silver and black and they all have visibility strips on them ....all black is dangerous in poor conditions in my view and hot.

Yup - I have the Olympia mesh air glide and it is perfect at up to 18-22 degrees celcius. Over that I sweat like a pig. :( At 28-30 C it's really hot. Have resorted to squiding. Any helpful ideas are welcome.

That's kind of a bummer to hear because the Airglide seems like the perfect 3 season jacket. Waterproof with the liner, good for spring and fall with all the liners in. I like the blue variant:

I use BMW vented jacket and pants. They are expensive but great. The black on the deflects the sun, quite amazing

The problem with my jacket:

This is without the only removable liner. So, even with my vents open the air flows through and behind the black barrier.

There are four vents. Two are in the sleeves:

The other ones are on the back:

Compare this to the Olympia Airglide jacket which has TWO removable liners. Lots more venting on the front:

More reflective surfaces on the Olympia Airglide as well which is a nice upgrade over my current jacket. However, my jacket excels in cold weather, rain, and it does an amazing job in keeping the wind out. Might as well get several more seasons out of it before retiring it.

So, get something with multiple uses like an Olympia Airglide or get a dedicated summer / hot weather option like the Icon Hooligan 2 jacket.

I love the look of the Icon but where the heck are the reflective surfaces on the jacket?

Don't get me wrong - the air glide is a great choice - I have no regrets. When I am wearing a casual t- shirt the jacket is ok in the heat. But I have to wear dress shirts to work and between my sweating and the compression of the jacket, my shirt is wrecked. So I need something even lighter for those situations.

I have two airglides - one in pewter gray and the other is is hi- viz yellow. The hi-viz really pops and based on my experience so far helps drivers ( who are not texting) notice me.

I will say one thing. As soon as I switched over from the black mesh jacket to the all white one. I have noticed an improvement in other drivers being able to see me. I have been cut off alot less (especially left turners). Cars were able too see me stopped further ahead.

Add my vote for the Air Glide 3. A perfect three season solution, even in the hottest weather. The AG3 is no longer available, unless on close out, having been replaced by the similar Air Glide 4.

I had an Icon Hooligan 2. It's a decent jacket, and even good in the cold with the liner and layers. Only thing is the zipper on it sucks ***, mine came apart in less than a season. Luckily Royal upgraded zipper for me under warranty.

Haven't worn it again since I've had my A* textile/mesh jacket though, if that tells you anything. Just fits me better, especially around neck and and wrists. I'm honestly a little chilly in mornings with it on, and it's great in the heat if moving. But I also like 30+ temps and the jacket offers VERY low protection. If you fell at any kind of decent speed, it's not going to do much besides prevent road rash IMO.

I'd really be curious to see some scientific data comparing the same vented jacket in dark and light colors (as far as actual temp goes). I realize that there is a difference between black and white as far as heat, just curious how much more heat a black vented jacket would absorb (and transfer to the wearer) vs say a white one.

I've had a couple vented jackets now and the lighter colors definitely get dirtier a LOT faster. My (black) winter gear looks like it's almost brand new and it's 4 years old.

I was thinking of getting something darker for my next buy (AG4 black/high viz) but definitely black pants. My light gray pants now are starting to look crappy at a year old. I like the idea of only having to shop for gear every 5-10 years vs every 2.

Silver is a good compromise as is the hiViz yellow in mesh.

Dark jackets at night in foggy and rainy conditions not a great idea.

Anyone using Velocity Mesh Jackets from the last group buy? They have two models:
Hybrid with mesh cordura in impact areas:

And the Yukon Mesh which does not have the cordura (less expensive jacket); but has white which would be cooler to wear:

I do not like how they made the upper padding black here. It should have been white. Just looks wrong to me from the back.

I will check them out again when it is time to pick up my Velocity kevlar lined jeans from the recent group buy. I spent more time checking out their VR PRo gloves when I was there last time. I only gave a quick glance at the mesh stuff. It is more recently that I am finding that I am probably going to have three jackets at some point (mesh for summer / hot days, textile that I already have for spring / fall / rainy days. and a leather for spring / fall which will be my most protective coat as well.

Gear, and so it begins... ;)

Today would have been an interesting day for mesh. Was humid but hit a little bit of rain on the 401 into work. As usual not a drop made it past my textile jacket (it sure is good for that). A little seeped into the gloves and my boots stayed dry. Damp jeans again though. :(

Got to get myself some riding pants soon. I have been meaning to pick up the Olympia Air Glides but I got sidetracked by getting the Icon Armour and now a mesh jacket. Always needing more gear. ;)

Normally ride with perforated leather jacket but recently picked this up. Great airflow through the mesh panels. Dainese Super Speed Textile.

That's a motocross under-jersey setup...

A lot of supersport riders are wearing them now. Add a pair of jeans with knee guards and you're pretty well protected without heat stroke / exhaustion. If you order this one order a size up. It has a removable back protector that you can use on its own as well. Great deal at half the cost of a Dainese.

Rev'it Airwave Jacket here. I usually just wear a dry-fit material underneath on the hot days, and it works great. Pants, I have the airwave pants too, if I'm going on the weekend rides, I just wear shorts under, works great.

Have the Rev'It Airwave jacket and pants on order... Picking them up today at Riders Choice... Should be much cooler than my Rev'It Sand 2 gear. Purchased the Rev'It Sand Pro gloves a week ago... Awesome hot weather gloves!
