Im a huge sirius fan, and recently added the mobile app to my iPhone. Curious how well the streaming works while driving? It seems flawless while im at my desk using the phone, but curious what expirience others have had streaming while riding?

Gotta get my howard fix, but refuse to drive the car just to get it ;-)

This should work just fine. I have streamed it while in the car and there has never been an issue unless I'm in an area where there's no 3g coverage. Have yet to try it on my bike but am going to for sure as soon as Howard's back from vacation.

Probably some here who know better but encoded at 128k (like an mp3) would run you about a meg a minute generally I think. About 60mb/hr? Don't quote me on that though. Try it and check the Rogers usage app to see how much data you're chewing up.

I have xm in the car, and a sirius boombox in the house, and just picked up the XM mp3i portable receiver/mp3 player for $129 from XM plus monthly fee(you can always bargain with them!). It works great, gets great receiption, and you can grab a microSD card (got a 16gig from futureshop for $30) and load it up with mp3's for when you can't get reception, which is rare (it's my backup for the subway). Great lil unit, though the battery life is only 4 hours with satellite radio, 10 for mp3s.

Sirius has a beautiful portable unit, the stilleto2, complete with wifi, and the battery life is longer, but it retails for closer to $300.

Haven't listened yet while driving, but planning a road trip to London for labour day weekend and will be using it then. Should work fine with my Ogio metro backpack as it has a nice lil pouch for it right at the top.

im lucky enough to be an early iPhone adopter, and have 6gb a month for what people are paying now for 500mb or 1gb or something like that.

Rode from Hamilton to Hagersville tonight and had music the whole time. NICE. Only catch I find is when you DO lose reception, the app doesnt auto-reconnect. Add that option and this would be awesome.

The 6GB deal is still on.

Back to topic: I dont like listening to anything while riding. I like to hear my surroundings (not that i can't with music but its just clearer)

I streamed Sirius to my blackberry for a week riding down the 115 to Ajax with no problem and great reception.
Then I called TELUS and asked how my data plan was looking...and she said not good I would chew it up in about 3 weeks leaving me overage charges for the last week.
So I just downloadedd a bunch of tunes to my BB and use that with no worries at all.

I'm kind of the same way. I recently picked up a Scala headset and it has an FM tuner. It's fun to have sound sometimes, but I find that I end up blanking it out once I concentrate on riding. At the stop light it's good to listen to, but sometimes if someone tries to talk to you you can't hear them at all. And if anyone is curious, the mic/cell phone feature works very very well - it sounds like I'm in my living room even at highway speeds.
