Another Irishman In Canada

Hello Folks,

Just a quick introduction, as the username suggests Im Rory, 33 years old and a new addition to the GTA. Spent 2 years in Saskatoon as right of passage to live in Canada. Riding bikes since my early 20's , started out on a little CBR2050RR MC22 back home and bounced around on few since then. Hung up the helmet for a while after the move to Saskatchewan. Partly because of finance and partly because the roads were long straight and boring or pure so ***** so never had the push to rush back. But now I'm here in Ontario I'm looking to get back in the saddle and leave some rubber around Ontario and maybe down the eastern seaboard in the Summer.

The obstacle in Ontario is insurance rates. Before pulling the trigger on a bike, get some quotes to see what your dealing with.

Yeah Im starting to see the difference in rates here alright, it seems they have free run to charge how they feel. Would be a shame if the insurance was to price me out of it here, but I dont thing I could go back down to some low cc bike either. It would just be too frustrating not having the power there when its needed.

Does anyone here know if the additional training courses really make much of a difference. I did them all back home and always got good ratings so not concerned about that. But I dont want to go do the course and end up only saving pennies.


And Yes! Of course I brought whiskey!

Talk to an insurance broker and see if any of your past courses/experience will be considered. If you have a certificate etc.

These things are a bit of a crap shoot since its dependant on the insurance company and what they will accept.

Give them your preferred choice of motorcycle you are seriously considering to help them get a base line.

Also, if you have home owners/renter insurance to bundle together that may help. Along with any other vehicle insurance.

That can get tricky as you can get a good rate for the bike and then hose you for the other vehicle or house insurance.

That seems the best option. I see a lot of time on the phone repeating the same details over and over in my future.
