As some of you know I live in Angus and this tornado was about 200 yards from my house, luckily we went un touched but I can't say the same for the people a couple streets over. Scary stuff when it hits so close to home and hopefully those on here that love in the area are ok also.

I saw the same U-haul truck on my buddies FB, he lives on that street.
Lost some shingles but that was the most of his damage.

Got off alot easier than the '85 tornado, I lived about 300m from that and we were saved by a hill that seemed to jump the funnel over our house.
5 houses were demolished on my street and there was a gas pump in the roof of the house 3 doors down and there wasn't a gas station within a km from there.

Some quality made houses right there
Are tornado/tie down straps required by OBC? I know some builders use them now after incidents where houses under construction came apart, but I didn't think it was standard practice.

Damn that's crazy....hopefully home insurance is good to them

As far as I can tell, Ontario building code for residential construction does not have any special considerations for tornado, hurricane, or earthquake.

Makes a case of shingles seem benign.

Glad you and your house made it out. Sad for the people who weren't as lucky.

I only live 20 min south of angus and we just got rain for about 30 min. Even the wind wasnt horrid.

The media reporting is just comical " there are still many homeless" , geez no roof on the house, walls unstable and broken gas and water lines. Why wouldn't you move back into what's left of the house. CBC reporting is just sad.

If you were really following the news, you would know that police does not let people back into their houses even just to get bare essentials - these houses first have to be checked for structural integrity.

I have to say that watching the news last night and people whining over not being let in, no foot patrols for security, no food etc just made me sick.

It sucks, no doubt about it. But cleanup can't be done immediately, so quit whining about unsecured houses. They are doing the best they can. And it's called a rainy day fund. Get one, with a clue. You are an adult-prepare for a few life emergencies.

One of my Employees lives 2 blocks away and ended up losing him BBQ and patio set. He was lucky there was no other damages. One of his neighborhood friends lost their house.

Glad to see no one was seriously hurt or killed.

No sercurity, OMG there are OPP cruisers everywhere blocking off streets, I live 3 streets over so I go past more than a few times a day and you cant make a move without OPP seeing what you are doing, plus the news crews that are there would certainly catch something going on.

Tell that to the grown man whining on CP24 last night at 5.

"They promised us security patrols, vehicle and foot. There is lots of cars and vans but no one on foot....."

He went on. Then I wondered why he was so worried, made me think what's in HIS house that needs such security....

It was bad, thankfully no one was killed. This should be the sticking point, not that you are worried about your stuff. Imo.

Just happy no one was seriously hurt. Having grown up in NZ where earthquakes happen its a reality that natural disasters happen. We lost 200+ people a couple years ago in Christchurch in that earthquake. It was pretty scary where I was in Toronto with the wind wipping around and the trees moving. Had that ice storm not taken out a lot of trees, I think a lot more would have fallen the other day. Hope the people of Angus come through this swiftly.

Drone view of the damage.
