Advice for trip

Hi all,

I'm planning a tour of new york this summer with some friends. We'll all be riding sport bikes (1st gen R1, 1st gen R6, GSXR600K5, ZX7RRN1). Two of us (R1, ZX7) have toured on our bikes before. We rode from Toronto to Indianapolis in one day (~8 hours). The other two have no long distance riding experience. I'm plotting a 4-5 day route route to some nicer roads and scenes in the upper New York state area. This is what I've got so far:

Day 1 - Toronto to Binghampton along I-86. Fast flowing highways ~5 hours
Day 2 - Binghampton to Burlington, Vermont via I-86 and I-87. Most fast flowing highways with some water near Burlington ~ 4 hours
Day 3 - Burlington, Vermont to Lake Placid, NY via back roads and Ferry or bridges ~2 hours plus exporing the mountains
Day 4 - ?
Day 5 - ?

Any suggestions on nice roads back to Toronto? I wouldn't want more than 5 hours of riding a day given the back to back riding and the new riders. 401 is obviously bland and I'm not familiar with good backroads along St. Lawrence.

I suggest going further south into Catskill and back west take 17 to I-86. with side trip through NY grand canyon. That will be a good 2 day route.

Or shift day one and two to PA then go across to Placid...
4 hours you are in twisty heaven around Renovo - spend 1/2 day plus one day then head across east.

Look for "tracy road" in Adirondack

Given your limits on daily rides with new riders the Catskills may be a stretch and on the weekends if the weather is warm
a) hard to find places to stay
b) busy

That's why I recommended Penn as a shakedown ride - and if you can do that not on the weekend even better. Start early - clear the border and you are in twisties by noon.
Once everyone is comfie and having fun then head further away from home base heading east from there.
Getting a quick thrill on 144/44 etc will start the trip out well instead of a long slab run.

Of course it's a bit weather dependent too.....if the weather looks better further east - go for it.

Just off the cuff why not shoot through NY in 2 hours and spend your time PA? Lots to ride / see there. 125 north to Shamokin is great amongst others.

If you're not done planning your trip yet check out the kancamagus highway in new Hampshire. It's a lot like the Blue Ridge Parkway through north Carolina.

OK, so we're heading out next week. I've taken the advice from this thread as well as some input from other riders outside of this thread and compiled a 5 day route.

Day 1 - Mississauga to Lock Haven, PA (650 km)

Day 2 - Lock Haven, PA to Utica, NY (500 km)

Day 3 - Utica, NY to Lebanon, NH (375 km)

Day 4 Lebanon, NH to Elizabethtown, VT (475 km)

Day 5 - Elizabethtown, VT to Mississauga, ON (650 km)

From this thread I've taken Renovo Rd, Tracy Rd, 144/44, and kancamagus highway. Some of the stuff further south in PA looks amazing but I decided to skip Shamokin this time around because if we wanted to hit New Hampshire and get home in 5 days it would have been too much of a stretch.

Any suggestions or slight detours that are worth while?

This is the first year I've owned a bike with no passenger seat too... the tail bag is going to be interesting to mount :)
