400cc bikes?

Hello everyone, I'm thinking about getting a bike... and I'm wondering if there are any 400cc bikes left that I can buy. The reason why I'm thinking about 400cc is because 250 is going to be too small for me, and I don't think I will be able to afford the insurance for 600. So I wanna choose something in-between. Your help is greatly appreciated :D

A 250 is never to small for you. And other than the new ninja 400 which I've heard is not all that great, you may find much old bikes in the 400cc range, but were talking about pre 90s for the most part. Some guy on here was selling his fzr400 but I'm pretty sure it's gone now

Forget 400. Go with...

CB500, out next year?
Ninja 500
GS500

And any of the 650s.

The Ninja 400 is discontinued (because aside from being an insurance-beater in Quebec, there was no advantage compared to a Ninja 650 which is the same bike). The Ninja 300 replaces the Ninja 250; would that be close enough?

The new Honda CB(R)500 looks promising.

As for the original poster claiming a 250 will be too small ... I see your 250 and raise you a 125. Very fun bike.

Is the 250 too small in size or power for you? I've just finished 10k on one this season and they're great bikes but I want to get some more touring / 2-up riding so I'm very interested in the CB500s. Take a look at them at the show if you can. Pricing is out tomorrow so hopefully they're not ridiculously priced...just checked the prices are out....$6300 base price.

It was too small power wise. I want to be able to overtake cars on a highway with confidence :) A friend of mine has one of these, and I took it for a spin. I loved it because it is sooooo agile this was a huge plus.

I looked into CB500F and I think this is the bike I might choose. But who knows :)

Ninja 500 looks kind of clumsy... if you know what I mean :) I will actually consider CBR500R. All I have to do is to wait for some review vids to come out :D

So all in all, I just added two more bikes to choose from CBR500R and CB500F. Thanks a lot guys, I really appreciate it :)

I've ridden my gf's Ninja 250. It'll top out at around 160 and passing cars isn't too difficult. The power was quite similar to the GS500F that I owned a few weeks ago. Difference is that the GS hits around 180-200 for top speed and there's slightly more pull when going 120 or higher.

EDIT: Nvm! They're all 2 cylinder, I should have checked before I posted <_<

Ninja 300 is just as quick as the Ninja 400. It makes up for the 8 or so less hp by being a whole lot lighter...

Sold it, it was a great bike 52hp for a 400cc that is funtastic!

I bet. And I never even got to ride with you AND you live in Etobicoke. Next season for sure. OP let us know what you end up grabbing. Used 250s and 500s are always great bikes.

GSXR-400, Ninja 400, etc. All the good 400's were either never sold here or were for a small amount of time (FZR 400).

Most of them are. The 600's are I4's.

While the 650's don't have the crazy rates of a 600SS, the rates can still be way higher than something like a 400-500.

The new CB500, cbr500, cb500x, are all 2cyl.

Okay I'm completely wrong and talking out of my *** lol

Are the 650s 2 or 4?

Most are twins as far as I am aware. The SV650, Gladius, and Hyosung GT650 are all v-twins. The Ninja 650R, Versys, ER6N are parallel twin (all basically the same engine actually). The new Honda 700 is also a parallel twin.

You can't always go by size, though. For example, I believe the VFR800 is a 4 while the BMW F800 series is a parallel twin again. There are also 750cc I4's while the Aprilia Shiver 750 is a v-twin.
