4 Insane Things Nobody Tells You About Riding a Motorcycle

Old but still awesome :) I used a variation of that quote the other day talking my friend into getting back into riding lmao

Part about armor - totally true (somwhat :D):
"And I can tell you firsthand that it is all just as uncomfortable, constricting and awkward-looking as you'd expect. And that it's also totally badass. Motorcycle protective gear is, by definition, insanely durable. Jackets, pants, bags and damn near every other type of clothing is made out of the toughest fabrics on the planet: Kevlar, Cordura, ballistic nylon -- this is **** that, when layered properly, stops bullets and knives."

Written for the hipster crowd?

lol I laughed my *** off at the armor comments, especially the Iron Man picture at the end (because it's a half-truth lol).

lol good post, haven't read this before. Saw another one linked to this article...

6 Things nobody tells you about owning a motorcycle:

LOL: "Older riders hate squids; cruisers hate sport riders; Harley riders hate everyone, including themselves. The social labyrinth is like navigating a high school prom, except you're sprinting through it at about 75 mph, on one leg, while programming a remote control and probably being attacked by bees."

Another jewel:
"The number one cause of motorcyclist death is people taking an ordinary left hand turn, right in front of the bike. They check their mirrors, they flick on their turn signals, and then they calmly and deliberately proceed to murder you."

Insanely durable? More like if the zippers aren't snapping or the velcro fraying, then the stitching is ripping and the plastic is cracking. Protective gear often seems LESS durable in daily use than street clothes.

Buy better gear?
Im on the second year of the same set of mx gear and not a rip in it. All my buckles work, and the only cracked plastic is the peak of my helmet from a rock smashing it.
Never had issues with my streak gear either.

+1 - some of my jackets are probably older then me, still perfect.

Must be... I don't find much of that true.

From certain perspective most of it true. I am sure new riders can relate to it even more. For everyone else - your riding buddies and gtam is source of entertainment and opinions. If I were to read it when I just started riding - lots of stuff will be right on.

If there are brands better than Dainese, Daytona, Shoei and Arai, let me know. Not every manufactured good can be perfect, but damn, I sure seem to stumble across a lot of junk.
