3M reflective tape?

Hey guys,
I heard that there's a reflective tape (3M) that is see through in daylight, but lights up fairly bright when light hits it? I'd like to put something like this on my bike (back/front) for some added night time visibility.

Anyone have experience with this? Done this before? Where is a good place to get it?

I would be very interested in this as well...

I would try a sign maker first. I scored a ton of 3M black reflective tape from http://twincitygraphics.com in Kitchener.

Ya that's pretty much what I'm looking for. I'd prefer clear over solid colours simply because it will blend in better. Still need to find some good locations on the bike to put it on for max effect.

You can try a few places.
- 3M Trimline might be able to help you out. They typically do window tint, stone guard and vinyl graphics
- An industrial distributor might as well i.e. Acklands Grainger or Unisource

One of the problems might be size. You might have to buy a full roll of tape as opposed to just 1 meter.

I remember seeing some black ones and different colours at Princess Auto.

To be reflective the tape needs refective backing. I don't see clear reflective being all that possible. I bought this black tape. A shot of my DL650.

Try finding out who tricks out the local police cars, and other emergency vehicles. They may have scraps around.

I've never heard of see thru, but 3M scotchlite comes in different colours and is reflective. I have black tape on my black bike and unless you are looking for them during the daylight you can't see them. They show up in flash pictures like the above, though.

You can e-bay it. 'scotchlite'

I have black rim tape, but reflects gold... There's options out there.

Thanks for the great updates guys, I appreciate it! As my bike's Red/Black I can put the black on fairly easily to keep the bike looking clean. I'm thinking the front forks...near the front cowling where it's black...on the rear turn signals...and on the bottom of the plate (although the plate is already reflective. As for the red I'll see how it comes out.

Dirty do you have a pic of the locations you placed it on?

I've never considered rim tape but might be something to look into as well! Thanks C-Note

Oh ya...and has anyone put it on the back of their helmet? I have a white/black one so I can probably cut it to fit within the shapes.

I have three on each side though the muffler now covers one. Front mud guard on front forks. Middle of bike. Rear swingarm.

You can see one of the middle ones here above the rear passenger peg.
