Hi Everyone,
Since I got the M2 have been on this site and read on as much as I can . Finally got the ZZR250 - '06 and quite happy - did not ride it yet but is semi winterized.

Have a few questions:
1. Where is a good place to go to have it certified in the summer? (Have hared dealerships will ask for a fork oil change where as the bike may only need brake pads to get certified)
2. What oil should I get? - Synthetic but since I do not have a manual I have no idea what this bike takes (also, filter change at every other oil change?)
3. For a 30yo guy what sort of insurance should I expect (got the Humber College safety course for M2)
4. I am missing something and forgot to write it down but if I remember or you guys would like to add something let me know

Thank you

1. Quick/cheap cert go to Rosey Toes. Good work, Heritage Auto.
2. ninjette.org will boggle your mind with details on the bikes.
3. State Farm will probably be about $70 per month, or less, assuming you've had your G for a while.
4. ? Have fun.

had G for a while now ... sounds interesting - didn't know about ninjette.org - Ty.

also .. the bike will be in the garage - wil take the battery out but what fuel stabilizer would be good for the 3 months storage? --- currently it has just a bit of gas at the bottom of the tank so I may have to fill it up to the brim

I'd recommend searching this forum. This has been beaten to death a few times recently.

I was unable to find the blue Sta-bil marine so I got the pink one - got some 94octane from PetroCanada and ran it for a while untill there was nothing coming out of the pipes - as assumption engine got to somewhat of warm engine temperature but I am a little bit confused at the petcock IMG_20121202_160509.jpg .I ran it on ON ... and now took the battery out. Should I store it on Pri and only ride on ON. Or it should always be on Pri whether on storage or riding in the summer?

it seems to idle stable at 1.x which I assume it should be ok.IMG_20121202_160846.jpg

Also, what gas does this bike take? 87-89 or 91 or ultra 94?

buddy you should type these same questions into google, you will get a much quicker answer and no one will rip on you for asking the same questions. talking about the octane, and what type oil kinda stuff

thanks, will try to see what google can give me tough any help from more experience riders would be appreciated
rez = self explanatory reserve
on = creates vacuum
pri = floods engine could be bad for storage

seems for storage is good ON as vacuum induce fueling though \pri is good if float valve dried up

Here is some advice Petro 94 is the worst thing you could use for storage Shell 91 and a few others have no ethanol which crystalizes and is the enemy for storage.
Petro 94 has the most you can get bad choice.
Never use prime unless you have run it out of gas and need to get the carb filled again.
Leave the battery in cold temps are better for storage and battery life get a battery tender and hook it up for the winter.
87 will be perfect for when you are riding it regularly fill with Shell 91 when it is sitting.

Hey man..

I ride a 2006 ZZR250 as well.

I currently run Rotella T6 for oil. Fantastic stuff and not expensive if you get it on sale. I'm 34 and pay $37 per month through State Farm. Google "Ninja 250 faq" and hit up the first link for tons of information.

Fill up your gas tank right up to the neck for storage, don't leave it mostly empty.

On the ZZR, there is no "Off" for the petcock. It's just ON, Prime and Reserve. You should be in the ON position most of the time. REServe is for when you run out of gas and need to switch to the lower straw to get the gas out of the bottom on the tank. Prime is for when your carbs are empty. In the ON position, gas does not flow unless your bike is on.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I also read that it is good from time to time to use the reserve as it collects water/debris and may clog the carbs. Thanks for the heads up ... today was happy - ran the bike for the first time in 3 weeks or more - battery almost dead so had to use the car for a quick boost .... now the battery is inside in a rather cool-ish place on a tender.

Goto watch out for the cold concrete in garage so have to move the bike every week or so. For the gas - well as soon as I get a helmet I might take it around the block a bit in the winter then again still debating it.

Petcock is on ON and left it that way - happy to have it though as a new rider and first winterization is a bit daunting to say the least.

Read the winterizing article on the Ninja 250 FAQ. You can also drain the carbs of gas by emptying the bowls. I know it's tempting just staring at the bike but it's best once you store it to leave it off until you are ready to ride it in the spring. Starting it every so often without riding it so it can get up to temperature is a good way to get moisture in the gas tank.

Regular Stabil or Seafoam in the tank in the right amounts and run the ZZR. Remove battery and trickle it inside house. Rotella T6 is good oil in the ZZR. Put bike up on centre stand and a board under the tires off the concrete, clean and cover with a light sheet and forget it for the winter. Drain carbs if you want but it is not a easy job on the full faired ZZR. I have a 2001 and have never drained them or cleaned them and have no problems. Saying that I probably have screwed my self. lol There are free manuals on the web but for the EX250 which has most of the same components. Join the Ninja 250 forums.
