120 km/h @ 6,000 RPM On 5th Gear (Last) Is Normal?

I recently acquiered a 750cc Kawasaki ZR7s and it only has 5 gears, I don't know why Kawasaki didn't go with a 6th gear like all other bikes, the revs sound harsh even at 100 Km/h.

How much RPM do your bikes give at 120 km/h cruising speeds?

Why are you saying that? I'm clueless coming from a 350cc Yamaha and a 250cc Honda NX before that, my only previous bikes.

Thanks Awyala! I wish I still had 6th gear though, I miss it and always try to change one more gear on the highway, it will take me a few days to get rid of the habit.

because your posts are nonsense, you dont even know what bike you have, and if you do have a zX7, it does have 6 gears and you just bought a bike with a broken transmission. Trala la la la

MY gs500 before i swapped the rear sprocket for a bigger one did 120 at about 6.5k rpm if i remember right.

with a bigger sprocket 120km is about 7.5-8krpm

OP says ZR7s not ZX7...

It sounds like it is geared for approx 200 km/h indicated top speed at redline. (5000 rpm at 100 km/h, and 10,000 rpm redline.) That sounds a bit low for a 750cc bike. It is possible that someone has put a smaller front sprocket or larger rear sprocket on it.

If you want to change it, find out how many teeth the front sprocket has and check that there is clearance around the sprocket, and if there is room, put on a sprocket that is one tooth bigger. That should give you approx 4700 rpm per 100 km/h (and about 215 km/h indicated top speed at redline). That sounds about right for an engine of that size. You could even go further (if there is enough clearance around the sprocket to allow it, and if there is enough room for the axle to be brought forward), or you could fine-tune it with a rear sprocket a couple teeth smaller. It will pull the taller gearing no problem.

My FZR400 has taller gearing than stock and it does 6000 rpm at indicated 100 km/h. (Stock was around 6500.) cbr125 does 7700 rpm at indicated 100 km/h.

Oh in retrospect thats my ignorance, dont hear about those bikes i guess and was long before i got into riding. Having a 5 speed is lame. So what was the OP's question? i'm bored

The ZR7S was Kawasaki's version of the Katana/Bandit. They were sold mainly in Europe as a commuter bike. The motor was a "retuned" GPZ motor IIRC, much like the Bandit used an old GSXR motor. A 5 speed gearbox was the norm, which ensured higher, buzzy RPMs (biggest complaint by owners).

A decent streetbike by all accounts which would have sold better if the SV650 hadn't arrived on the scene in 1999. Lighter, similar power, 6 speed, v-twin and probably less expensive too. Bracketed by the similar 6 speed Bandit/Katana, it didn't last long in the NA market.

Not sure why 5 gears are "lame"?
Is it like have have the **** wits here only can drive automatic cars? Now that's lame.

Well I guess it doesnt matter, I can still go to 200 km/h and I will not risk it and go beyond 140km/h because of Ontario's nazi "stunt/racing" frivolous laws.

If you think that Ontario's laws in this regard merit a comparison to the Nazis, perhaps you need a history lesson.

One of my bikes is at 10.000RPM at 100km/h in 6th gear ... LOL and I love it.

That's not how you spell R6. Weren't you getting an R6?

Go to the "Insurance" forum here at GTA and search my thread "$2,100 Insurance Quote Kills The Deal For Me" or something along those lines.

lol for real? Well there's a reason why I bought a sport-tourer... I want the sportiness looks of a SS but not too much revvs while cruising at highway speeds.
