02+ R6 vs CBR F4i, How do they compare?

So I've got an 02 F4i but like the look of the old R6 2002 to maybe 06. Just wondering how it compares to the Honda.

Any R6 owners from those years that want to chime in?

F4i = Fuel Injection
'02 R6 = Carb
'03+ R6 = Fuel Injected

I find the F4i more street oriented ergos. R6 more aggressive ergos.

Ok thanks I didn't know the 02 was carbed, that's sucks.

So I guess 03 R6 vs 2002 split seat F4i?

Just some friendly convo really :)

I could be mistaken but the 02 generation of the R6 might be known for 2nd gear issues.

Also there are differences between the 03-04 and 05 R6 (the 05 is generally preferred b/c of the upgrades to the front fork and brakes) but very similar bikes.

What are you hoping to compare ?

Their purpose in life ? chassis/suspension? motor? which handles better ? Reliability ?

F4i is basically a F4 just fuel injected, it was honda's attempt into the FI 600CC market - I feel it was aimed mostly for the street market. As they have the 600RR that was more track/corner oriented. The F4i to me is a touring bike. Don't get me wrong - there are guys who will run laps around me in their F4i's/F4's....

The R6 was totally resigned after the cuddy thundercat etc...the suspension and chassis was bang on. There are guys who still ride the R6's and prefer the old gen R6's. The R6 out of the box was probably the best handling bike for cornering performance back in 03.

I feel like yamaha got the chassi bang on and didnt' update the looks for a long time, the ZX6 and GSXR both went through major changes - but the R6 went through minor.

I've worked on plenty of R6's, F4's, F4i's. Both have issues, electrical, cam chain tensioners etc etc. The R6's jap.phillips head fasteners are just so junk.

If it was my money, I'd buy a GSXR - they are WAY better street bikes than a R6 or F4i - they tour way better, more parts availability. The ZX6r are getting to be collector items already, people want a small forture for them.

You say a GSXR is better for touring but call the F4i a touring bike :/

Personally I think the suks from that era are some of the ugliest bikes ever made. I'm sure they work fine tho.

The gsxr's have a bit more girth to them. The 06+ gsxrs' with the exhaust down low is perfect for stacking bags on the back.

I toured on my little 03/04 636 with full ohlins - its a very taught bike - but Loved every kms of it.

I can't get use to the narrow angled inwards bars of the F4i.

I have a 03 r6. Love it... point and shoot as I say. Handles like a 250. Goes like a rocket (:

Carbs don't suck lol. Why do so many people think that..?

I have an '02 R6. 65,000 km's. She runs strong as hell, starts in the cold with no issues. Carbs require a wee bit more maintenance, which to some people is a "fun" thing to do. They are excellent bikes, they are much more aggressive than the F4i. They are also much more fun (personal opinion); Depends on your riding style. My R6 is done up really nicely, lots of work. Looks great and performs very well. Couldn't ask for anything more than it. I tour on it, ride fast on it, 2 up, everything. It's my general purpose machine. Went -1, +3 on the sprockets (aluminum) with a D.I.D ERV3 chain, gave it ouudles of torque. The newer R6's lack low down power. Once you hit the power band, you won't complain though.. The older models are just fine, as they do indeed have power down low. I top out at 222km/h now (Speedo Healer), but the acceleration is quite impressive. No need to go over 220, who likes straight lines anyways? Look out for the second gear issue, bikes that are ridden properly won't get the issue. Hard shift from first into second. Sloppy half kicks up are what cause the issue. It's common and very easy to permanently fix with parts from the 03.

Doesn't matter now, anyway, since he made a new thread asking for recommendations of different bikes since insurance on a 600 is too high.

Because they do

I race 2 R6's, a 99 and an 03, guess which ones runs consistently better

Actually no, it was a hypothetical thread in case it was crazy. But its not at all, I got the call back and I'm happy with it.
