    Science news of the day

It’s not just one…there’s more and more of these people and it’s a serious issue. They are easy to identify, they will ask for more and more evidence of one side of the argument that is often supported by robust science or evidence yet give any ******** conspiracy spouted by some idiot a free...

    Where to get a puppy?

Chewed shoes, missing socks, uprooted plants and terrorized squirrels. Bliss and wouldn’t have it any other way. Enjoy. She looks lovely!

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

I use it for that too and it’s pretty effective. The blades are pretty cheap.

This is my pruner RIDGID 18V SubCompact Brushless Cordless One-Handed Reciprocating Saw (Tool-Only) | The Home Depot Canada Plus a green wood saw blade. I can’t see a use case for a mini chainsaw unless I’m dealing with really thick branches or trunks of small trees. This thing takes care of...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

My Poulain Pro weedwhacker was very temperamental. I spent ages trying to get it run just right and eventually just sold it. That was an older model, things may have changed.

One pod has poor speed. Near modem is fine, pod #2 is fine, pod #1 is slow and needs a boost from hardwired backhaul. Pod #1 is connected to the media centre so that’s the one that needs more speed for streaming etc.

Powered internet switches? Haven’t looked into what I need to sort this out. I recently switched providers and got Bell's 3GBS fibe service and would like to spread that more round the house. The pods are good, I have 1GBS or more service in most of the house now through WiFi but I need at...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

There would be a follow up post of how to get a remote control car that has crashed out of the crawl space.

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Ok next project. How do I fish an Ethernet cable through a crawl space and round a 90 degree corner? There’s a couple of HVAC ducts scattered about but not in a direct line of sight from where I can poke the cable into. 2 sets of fibreglass fish rods? One with the cable and the other with a...

I ended up covering the oak with an aluminum transition strip as it looked better (according to the wife). It evened out some small height stuff too.

I'm not a carpenter but I fabbed up this transition to span an inch plus floor height difference. I think it looks ok. Sent from my SM-S938W using Tapatalk

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

If I was doing it again I’d use 6x6s but the 4x4s have been fine for this and that’s what I could afford when I built it years ago. Hammocks get hung between the posts too. The deck floor and rafters rigidify everything and the posts were sunk in concrete as far as I could dig down. It was...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Ok. This is mine I built about 15 years ago. The deck floor keeps everything solid along with the rafters. These are 4x4s. Sent from my SM-S938W using Tapatalk

You building a deck floor on it?

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Thanks. I tried putting my weight all on neighbouring planks to see if the edge moved (if I have broken a lip) but so far there’s no movement. A few of the neighbouring planks all look like they have settled into a more locked orientation too. Pretty sure that when the furniture comes back in...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Switched from a rubber mallet to a lump hammer. Might be having a little success. Edit. Lump hammer ftw. One of two things has happened: 1. The lump hammer was very persuasive and fixed everything. 2. The lump hammer was overkill and now the locking mechanisms are broken giving the illusion...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Tried that already. I have the special tool to pull rows in. The long side needs to tilt to lock so these planks need to be tilted if the tongue is completely unlocked. So I’ll take the rows apart. I figure if things are going badly I’ll save the row end pieces that have been cut and just...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Need to take up 3 rows of the floor and reset them. One plank didn’t lock properly on a long edge and I can see that edge lifting and it’s bugging me. This is the lock system where you tap the short end to lock it in place. When you try to disassemble this joint it often breaks. I have spare...

    Soccer/football thread 2022

I didn’t watch the halftime bollocks and didn’t watch a fair amount of the second. Managed to catch the Spanish goal. Trump trying to hog the limelight was sadly predictable. Agreed on this World Cup. Some bright spots but some low ones and a fair few rancidly annoying ones. It shouldn’t...
