If the coils are touching the shorted out sections bypass parts of the coil. The series resistance drops so it draws more amperage and creates more wattage. That wattage is spread over the working part of the circuit, the length of which has been reduced.
If 10% of a circuit gets dropped out it...
What happened with footings?
I kicked around the thought of a simple roof over the BBQ but got informed, hopefully wrongly, that any raised deck or roof structure needed massive footings and posts.
What happened to a drilled hole, shovel of crushed stone and a concrete filled Sonotube with a...
I knew a guy that soldered his broken coil back together using silver solder. As ridiculous as it might seem it would probably work. I've tested heating cables by running them cherry red.
OTOH our 50+ YO Maytag is on its second coil, an OLD Maytag.
They found out that public greed is as bad as corporate greed. One Scandinavian country went the % of income route for fines and the local LEOs let the Ladas through at 30 over while waiting for a bigger fish in an M-B doing 20 over.
I don't think money should be used as punishment. How about...
Follow the money.
1) Develop a mini city on a cheaply bought remote plot of land without public transit.
2) Print driver's licenses on paper coffee cups.

Ever been to a neighbourhood safety meeting? There are usually several mothers hyperventilating over their precious kid's safety.
You know who doesn't care an iota about the kid?
The other eight billion people on the planet and most of the animals.
The super moms are usually the worst drivers...
The right to repair extortion will destroy the reasonably priced used car market, if it even exists anymore.
A winter beater or starter vehicle used to be a 10 or so year old that could be kept running for a few more years by topping up fluids.
Now automatics don't have dipsticks or a means...
The price sounds good until it hits the market and people start wanting the extras. The options will cost more if not installed at the time of vehicle manufacture.
How many people under 50 know how to operate a crank window?
A bit weird but an elderly friend of my cousin recently died.
She was knocked down on a sidewalk by a bicycle, scratched and bruised. Flesh eating disease set in and she ended up losing a leg. Then more complications and death.
Posted just in case there was any optimism left in the world.
