    Stocks

Counting down the days is nice, isn't it? I remember the first time declining to quote a major job because the project schedule extended past my planned retirement date. I'd kept quiet about it until then, but that's when the cat got out of the bag.

If there is any question remaining that this was about money rather than safety ...

What did you do in your garage today..?

Loads of cars have phenolic brake caliper pistons. Doesn't conduct heat from the pad into the brake fluid anywhere near as fast. Had a customer that made those pistons. Canadian company. No idea how many caliper pistons they made, but it was a lot.

Carney drops tariffs to 6.9% on Chinese EVs

Tariffs (and misinformation about green energy) did that to our manufacturers first - that came first.

Carney drops tariffs to 6.9% on Chinese EVs

Trump's actions already spat in the face of Canadian auto workers, so at that point, what's there to lose? Unemployed because the orange blob pooped is no different from unemployed because we're importing from elsewhere, but at least this way the consumer has better choice.

Carney drops tariffs to 6.9% on Chinese EVs

We won't see the super-cheap models. With a limit on the sales volume, they'll focus on the higher-end higher-profit models. Also, at that sales volume, it's hard to justify setting up a new dealership network, so we'll see brands that already have one. Polestar ... Volvo ... Mini ... BMW ...

Where did your motorcycle come from ?

My R3 was assembled in Malaysia. Yamaha has a huge assembly plant there. The others came from Japan.

What did you do in your garage today..?

My Honda HS520 started on the first pull. I store small engines with the fuel tank and carb empty.

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

The beep "disengaged" when the car was already sideways was the best part. Or maybe the map track showing the car in the opposite direction lanes after it went all wibbly-wobbly. Can't decide.

North American International Motorcycle Supershow - Jan 9-11, 2026

I had a mission to buy a new ECE 22.06 helmet and a new set of gloves. I bought a HJC RPHA12 helmet from Otomoto and RST TracTech Evo gloves from Riders Choice. The helmet is a last-year's style (mfg date Nov 2024) but that doesn't concern me, one less year of future available use on the track...

    2026 Rides

Well. I just booked it. Track days. 4 in a row (yikes). Almeria, Spain. 30 March through 2 April 2026. I've not ridden there before. Requesting a hire bike for the track, they have a few available (already discussed this with them)...

    Ryan Wedding

It's hard to assign a value to a several-years-old MotoGP bike. What it cost originally to build (or lease) is water under the bridge ... sunk cost ... irrelevant. What are you going to do with it? It's obsolete as a race bike. Can't use it as a track-day bike ... spare parts are unobtainium...

    Off the road

Unfortunately, with the way fault determination rules are written ... "if someone else is going to make you crash, always hit them"

    Retired and back to motorcycling

Fixed. Congratulations and welcome back. I left the automation-industry (mostly automotive) rat-race 3 years ago. Not having to book/schedule vacations, instead just going, is another big plus. I'm currently mulling over when and how long my next trip to Spain is going to be. Spent a week in...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

What a waste of engineering effort. Let the EV be an EV and make it a better one. That noisemaker isn't going to win over anyone who wasn't going to buy one anyhow.

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

I've seen many cases where a mass-production line was converted into a service-parts line. Usually it involves cutting out a whole bunch of automated assembly operations and keeping only the critical fabrication and assembly tooling (and relocating what's left of it from the main production...

    Hydraulic Valve Trains

Hydraulic lash adjusters? Adds weight, cost, and complexity. I think improved materials and manufacturing have largely removed the incentive for doing so. I just checked the clearances on my 2004 ZX10R after ignoring them for 60 000 km (155k on the bike) and only had to change one shim.
