Looks like the "retracting under its own weight" as a dumb oversight on my part. Just went out to test it and the release was a little loose.
Tightnened it back up and stood on the jack and it held me up. 🤦♂️
I will do another test by trying to jack my car up and see if it will do it and how...
I think this is where the leak is coming from.
Looks like the oil has started to turn into grease.
I will attempt the extra pump or bleed method.
I agree that it would be strange to have some really unique sized seals in these. Why would any manufacturer want to do that when off the shelf...
Costco has a longer satisfaction guaranteed policy then the jungle monkeys.
I'll get one from Costco and take this busted one to the scrap.
I don't use jacks often enough to justify the airbag jack. Not for the cost, but for the unjustified need.
So I made $644.75 at the scrapper today.
Over the weekend I started to pick away at the mess in the garage .
I had about 20-25 computers of various sizes. About 200 lbs of ethernet and other wire and 1 UPS.
Too bad that some of it sat there for 2 years accumulating value dust.
I was...
Is this a common thing with these jacks?
I guess the other question is.
Do I buy new or used? I don't want to have the same problem again.
Not even sure when will be the next time I will use one. lol
I think it might be just seals.
I did not see any obvious damage to the shaft.
I do recall seeimg some oil seeping out of it.
Maybe Ill get to it at some point.
It may also be easier to buy a gently used one on FB.
The think I like about this one is that its lights due to aluminum...
I think I paid less than $100 CAD for the jack when in out it at least 10 years ago. The dollar was really good at the time with the USD.
I probably use the thing less the once a year.
Buying a new one would probably make most sense but it would be a cool little project to do.
Not that I...
Are jacks worth repairing?
I have this Harbour Freight 1.5 Ton Rapid Jack. It seems like the seal has give up as it won't even stay up under its own weight.
I can pump it but as soon as I stop pumping, its starts to go back down.
You can see in one of the picks the oil solidifying and oozing...
Looks like the Hackzall is also on sale.
NOTE:
None of these are the FUEL version.
