Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Just data points... items for thought. -Laminate flooring needs to expand and contract. How much of a problem this will be will depend on the distance and are the cabinets holding it in place at both ends. Longer the distance, the bigger the problem. -If you go under, I agree with others to...

Law Enforcement - The Good, The Bad, The Ugly.....

It is like the studies that find crime rates initially go up but then eventually go down near drug injection sites. Crime rates going down or people giving up and crime reporting has gone down?

    Fry pans

We have the mix, non stick, stainless, cast iron. They all have their place and purpose. For non stick, we stopped buying the inexpensive ones and we have a set of All-Clad and some other one from WS I can't remember the name at the moment. Hand wash only, plastic utensils only, they last many...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

I had my roof done in 2018 and quotes at the time were pretty high as that year had a few bad storms and roofers were anything but hungry. Top quotes were 20K and change. Mids were 10K and change, there were a couple of shifty ones in the 5K range... We ended up going with one of the mids. The...

    How`s your house pricing doing?..

High-rise condo fees are based on square feet. What Canadians think they need square foot wise for a family sized condo is large enough that in most cases condo fees become never ending mortgage size payment. Outside of NA a family size condo is much smaller. We just don't get it. IMO/IME...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

I have the Kreg Accu-Cut that uses your circular saw. Sort of a poorman's tracksaw. IME it does a great job, I also have the extra "clamps" that hold it in place. I cut on an old door used as a work table. If you place a piece of scrap foam board below your cut and set the blade to not go...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

So instead of pushing the board through the saw it looks like he has the saw "backwards" and is pulling the board towards him through it??? If so, that ain't the saw's fault.

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Given that the battery failures AFAIK seem to be heat related, my guess is replacing cells may be a rinse and repeat exercise. If cells died due to heat, well the ones next to them also experienced that same heat, how many cycles are they behind?

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

It was covered by the 8 year battery warranty.

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Just circling back on this one. Battery is replaced and so far he said all is good, it took about seven weeks in total.

    Sea container storage.

Yes, I am not suggesting they are hermetically sealed... but that isn't going to get the moisture out in a hurry.

    Sea container storage.

Steel in this context is thermally conductive. Humid air inside and cold air outside will cause the moisture to stick to the inside walls and ceiling. In my case enough for it to start "raining down" in the right conditions. Similar to moisture sticking to the outside of a cold beer can in...

    Sea container storage.

I had a car stored in one for years, we had two big issues... First, condensation, there was no roof vent in the one we had and temperature swings could cause it to basically rain inside.... I think ventilation would have solved this, specially active vents at the highest point. Second, mice...

Law Enforcement - The Good, The Bad, The Ugly.....

Excessive tint also hides things like phone use when driving, drinking while driving, etc. It also impedes the driver's ability to see OUT of the side windows at night. I have no problem with it being enforced. Take some cops off of endless speed traps and enforce some other moving violations...

    How`s your house pricing doing?..

For reno costs we know material prices are up but many have come down from the COVID peaks. Contractor labour can be a killer these days. Labour shortages with all the building and renos going on made it a sellers market. While there is a segment that are still renovating in volume there will...

    Cutting 6mm aluminum plate

Yes it is kind of a stupid design as they could have changed the "speed hole" locations to better accommodate service. Cutting a for clearance will weaken the plate as the plate above it will be a lot narrower, but unless you actually use it as a skid plate (hit it hard) I doubt it will matter...

    Cutting 6mm aluminum plate

Aluminum is pretty easy to cut, no overly fancy tools are required. Maybe give us a pick of the spot... For best results, once you mark up where to cut remove the plate before cutting. Drilling small holes and connecting them is likely the worst method. Your cleanest method could be a simple...

Has the city lost it's mind...

As I understand it the land is vested in the province today and there will be some high level work to change the act, trusts, etc... There will be some legal costs but the individual leases per house that are getting broken are to the benefit of the current lease holder as they are buying the...

Has the city lost it's mind...

I agree, I want to break as many of these leases as possible yet also have a cash win fall. We need to find a sweet spot what people can swing, $1.5M is just a talking point number. Some of these houses are quite nice others not so much. More money means more win fall for the gov but maybe less...
