Our gun laws keep me from working retail.

    Motorcycle industry in Canada (Ontario)

When I was working on my pilot's license a commercial pilot suggested I go for an instructor's license. I could instruct and bank the minimum wage, using it to pay for my private flying. Since my regular job paid 4-5 times the minimum it didn't make sense other than building hours, which on a...

    Motorcycle industry in Canada (Ontario)

    1) Responsible people need wages that allows them to be responsible to their families, housing, food, education, culture. 2) Mutual respect replaces a lot of Rx costs. 3) Taken in enough depth, any product can be interesting. Forget lumber, I knew guy that bought and sold sawdust. 4) Mega...

    Motorcycle industry in Canada (Ontario)

Too much ego involved for me. The old line of "If it's got t**s or tires, you'll regret it."

    Motorcycle industry in Canada (Ontario)

I knew one engineer that started out in the petro-chemical field then realized if he got started on a ground breaking project he could be 20 years on one project, two in his working lifetime. He switched to commercial to diversify. Some electricians like the challenge of something different...

    How`s your house pricing doing?..

Rubbing salt in the wound, the contractor totally ignored what we said we wanted. It looks like a DIY this summer with a friend helping.

Law Enforcement - The Good, The Bad, The Ugly.....

and where did the bullet end up. Locally two cops responding to a domestic issue follow a guy to a bedroom and one cop discharges his side arm twice due to a knife threat. Both shots miss. 10 X 12 room.

    How`s your house pricing doing?..

What were 2X4s at peak? Around $12 for 8 feet and they were scarce because of the risk of a supplier price drop.

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

I thought ordinary residential service was approximately 15c / Kw. A friend's Tesla was sipping electrons in Trenton at 65c / Kw. I was playing around with the price spread of off-peak @~10c to peak @ ~20c and a 13 KW powerwall at $20K and it doesn't pay back for 50 years, interest not...

Interested in riding, worried about insurance (Bike / CC Categories)

IMO Motorcycle rates are determined by throwing darts at a bingo machine. Every insurer has their own level of claim fear. Allstate wouldn't insure my 1500 cc Goldwing because of the huge engine but they would cover me on a 600 cc wheelie machine. You or your broker has to check each insurance...

    Spring snow melt - Flooding

There's some nasty stuff happening up the Bruce Peninsula. On the other hand my B-I-L called from Colorado and it was 95° F in his back yard. No skiing this winter due to no snow. Farmers starting to worry.

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Range may always be an issue but times change. In 1955 if you wanted to visit relatives in Manitoba you drove for two long days each way. Now you look at the cost of meals and accommodation along the way, shredded nerves, gas, wear and tear. Instead, you call an airline and save a week of your...

Law Enforcement - The Good, The Bad, The Ugly.....

A few years back, pre Trump, I led some US rednecks from Niagara to Trenton because they had trouble understanding our maps. One rider in particular was wetting his pants about riding through cities. (They couldn't carry). That guy figured we could go north to Barrie and head east from there, on...

Law Enforcement - The Good, The Bad, The Ugly.....

Pretty much, unless you have a backhoe and bush lot. Safe rooms are a great idea. Make your family paranoid while tying up a half a million in unusable real estate. What would an adult Kevin McAllister do?

    The knife thread

Cutting boards I regret throwing out my poly plastic one. It was rough from taking a lot of cuts but that roughness held a filet of salmon in place while I skinned it. Hard cutting boards, glass, ceramic, granite are for rolling out cookies. The Mrs. is a germaphobe and doesn't like wood. We...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

I need a 32". Wood is easier to plane and epoxy does a good seal. It's for the shed.

    Impaired Driving Penalty Changes

How about mom leaving keys accessible? A garage up the Bruce Peninsula got seriously reamed for leaving keys for cars in for service dropped in ashtrays or on visors. The court assigned percentage blame to a half dozen people with the garage getting the biggest number. Young unlicensed teens...

    Impaired Driving Penalty Changes

It could be argued that a licensed driver would have enough training to avoid being in that spot. The moving car isn't allowed to ram a stationery vehicle, regardless of why and where it is stopped. Lots of tickets for everyone.

    Impaired Driving Penalty Changes

Eating a bunch of tasty shrimp can be fatal as well if the eater was critically allergic. If they can not indulge for themselves why would it be different for someone else? Maybe they don't care about the others as much as they care about their own pleasure. Is ego an issue? At what point does...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

It's not just Cuba FWIW I just got an email from my sister in New Zealand. They're down to 38 days of fuel. However their electricity is 80 to 90% renewable, hydro and geothermal. She's gone EV in her transportation.
