    Yes, it was discoloured, and didn't smell much like gas, but the inside of the tank was shiney silver, and no signs of trouble. Here it was.....

    You sure? The 36yr old bike I bought in May had sat >11 years with ⅓ tank of (what was formerly) gas in it. After draining it, and rinsing with fresh gas, the inside of the tank was shiney & still like new. Not a spec of rust or crude came out (to my surprise).

    Because it's water. Water and rubber (unless drag slick) get slippery. Control 'could' be lost running the track, because of wet tires. Starters / marshals at Cayuga always direct motorcycles around the puddle (for good reason). You can do a burnout without the puddle. If you have a drag slick...

    Go to automotive cleaning products.

    I do it twice a year. Using up a mother's kit atm, and I bought some bulk claybar online cheap, somewhere. Wash it, rince it, dry it, wipe with claybar & lubricant, wash with 99% isopropyl, apply your favorite wax. The surface stays slick for a few months (parked outside).
