Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

They may be the ugliest stock wheels I have seen but if the kid's happy and the price is right, it's a win.

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

12.5c/km vehicle cost plus <5c/km power (fuel), maintenance close to zero. May be the cheapest wheels around if if it can do the job for you. For the 12K in lease payments, you could get a 10 yo 200k km corolla that burns ~10c/km in gas plus fluids plus maintenance and it's hard for the ICE to...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Something like 200km. May be adequate or may be useless depending on the driving profile. Level 1 charger would be rough if you are close to max range every day as it takes ~25 hours from empty to full. Vehicles with larger packs are more forgiving with leaving in the morning not fully charged...

What did you do in your garage today..?

@Wingboy getting his new snowblower did not keep the snow away.

    New boats $$$$$$$$$$

I know of them. I don't think I have been on a boat that had them. The seakeeper price tag could cover a decent boat (>$25K). Like motorcycles, adding hundreds of pounds has some downsides.

    New boats $$$$$$$$$$

I have seen construction jobs quoted a similar way. Instead of a detailed takeoff where you count every square/linear foot of material needed and multiply that out to get the final price, you do it the slow way enough times to come up with a fast way that works. Depending on the trades involved...

    George Barber passes..

Fallen riders forum. Not much leeway to discuss anything. May want a second thread in a more permissible section of forum. Rip Barber. Unforgettable legacy.

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

His eaves are not painfully high. About 1.5 storey and gentle roof pitch.

We Know you Ride, But do you Shoot?

Less loud than hammering a nail. Distinctive sound though so a nosy neighbour can hear and call if you are shooting outside. If shooting in the basement, neighbours can't hear it. When he was a teenager, my wife's brother was visited at gunpoint by the swat team while playing with a bb gun. A...

We Know you Ride, But do you Shoot?

While still a contravention of bylaw, You can shoot bb guns inside. Your house is not a good layout for this, maybe the cottage basement provides that option. Otherwise, crown Land is possible. They are quiet so they don't attract much attention.

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

I like the look. On my deck on the old house, I used 6x6 for all posts even though structurally 4x4 would have been more than enough.

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

The posts are rotted off or the concrete footings have broken up? I wouldn't be replacing 4x4 with 6x6 randomly. It will look like poo and you need to cut down the panels. If you want to start down that route, I would replace posts in a pattern so it looks intentional (corners and every other or...

The "Official" Watch Thread and all Things Horological

I'm with CC. The ingraham won't be worth much either. If you post pics of the movement in the Waltham, I may be able to give you more information. I wouldn't toss anything (although the quartz watches may suffer that fate). Give them to you local theatre company as props if they have zero value.

    Stocks

Here's another similar story. Cultural trust seems to be a common thread in most of them. In this case, 320K heloc through a financial.planner who personally guaranteed the investment for someone to purchase a boat. If you are buying six figure boats using private lending, it's hard to think of...

    Stocks

Melting down your rrsp before cpp starts normally makes a lot of sense. Why was tfsa not in your list of winnners/losers? I assume it's maxed? In the absence of a terminal diagnosis, most people get much more lifetime income by starting cpp at 70. Burning all of your investments prior to 70 and...

What did you do in your garage today..?

While you don't want more work, I would cover the wood with something fire resistant. Heat/power/gas in an enclosed space where everything is flammable isn't great. If you don't want to do it, I would kill the heat/power in the room when I was leaving.

    Cuba...

Canadian government just changed Cuba to "avoid non-essential travel". I can't remember where the line is, but at a certain level of alert, insurance no longer covers you. Lack of flights probably cut most tourists. This adds disincentive for those resourceful enough to find another way there to...

    COVID and the housing market

Some can do math. The only math they care about is how much personal enrichment they get. The rest of us are a piggy bank to be exploited.

    Canada Post - Huge losses

To be fair, that's the least of my problems. Cdic insurance is far more about propping up trust than protecting money. Who has over 100K in a bank account where that money is critically important to their life? For the few that do meet that threshold, wtf is wrong with them and how can we...

Finally bought a new guitar amplifier

It's lighter than I expected. About 85 lbs. In a previous life I probably moved ampeg 8x10's 1000 times. That got old quickly as they are ~150 lbs plus the road case.
