How well do you know your MotoGP sponsors?

3 here as well. Some of those are pretty obscure. I suspect the tendency for a racing sponsor to be the employer of the racer / racer's family / friends so that they can use their hobby as a tax deduction, goes all the way to the top levels of motorsports. Crypto scam companies looking for...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

There's no regional allocation within Canada. They'll sell the allocated number to whoever will buy them. Odds favour Quebec then BC due to high existing EV market share then Ontario because it's big. These are going to be ordinary vehicles from familiar brands through existing dealers for...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

I recognise that youtuber. I lost patience with him years ago, and don't really care what he has to say. As for Donut Labs / Verge Motorcycles ... the proof is in the pudding. They say they're starting production Q1 2026 ... let's see it.

    2026 MotoGP (spoilers allowed)

If you want to watch MotoGP at Phillip Island, you had better get on the case, because this is the last year. It's being replaced by a partial street circuit in Adelaide for 2027, which I don't like one bit. Yuck.

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

So I went to Port Dover on Fri 13th, partly "because", partly to see the frozen-over Lake Erie (kinda cool to walk out onto the lake), partly to have a Hutch's fish and chips on the way back. Based on the GOM, which is guessing based on recent short trips in cold weather, I double checked that...

Now all the airlines have bailed. I feel bad for the Cubans that relied on tourism. ... which is basically the whole country. Incoming humanitarian crisis. Disgusting.

Also, it has to be from a country with a free-trade agreement with Canada, so not the Chinese imports. Not very many models will qualify. The new Chevy Bolt will qualify for the short period that GM is planning to build it. South Korean imports will qualify, but the Ioniq 5 (regardless of built...

    Oil Spec for 2025 RAV4

If the owner's book has a "severe service" alternate maintenance schedule, follow that. It is not a bad idea to have an oil analysis done. I believe that all of the Xw16 and Xw20 oils are synthetic, which helps. If it was my car, I would change the oil spring and fall, and use 0w16 in the...

    Travel visa Aussie/New Zealand

This is the one that you need. https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/electronic-travel-authority-601 Still A$20 if you go through the ETA app. This is good for staying up to 3 months. The expensive one is only if you want to stay for up to a year.

    Stocks

My own view is to set up a brokerage account and do things yourself. You'll pay some transaction fees but no management-fee percentage off the top. Then pick several dividend-payers that aren't going to go broke any time soon. Or a broad-market dividend-paying ETF. Re borrowing to invest, I've...

    Stocks

Saw some things on social media which prompted checking exchange rates ... 1 CAD = 0.7366 USD as of a couple minutes ago. That is a significant change since yesterday. I spot-checked EUR and GBP which seem in the ballpark, if anything those have gained a little against the CAD. Means the USD...

    Stocks

Counting down the days is nice, isn't it? I remember the first time declining to quote a major job because the project schedule extended past my planned retirement date. I'd kept quiet about it until then, but that's when the cat got out of the bag.

What did you do in your garage today..?

Loads of cars have phenolic brake caliper pistons. Doesn't conduct heat from the pad into the brake fluid anywhere near as fast. Had a customer that made those pistons. Canadian company. No idea how many caliper pistons they made, but it was a lot.

Carney drops tariffs to 6.9% on Chinese EVs

Tariffs (and misinformation about green energy) did that to our manufacturers first - that came first.

Carney drops tariffs to 6.9% on Chinese EVs

Trump's actions already spat in the face of Canadian auto workers, so at that point, what's there to lose? Unemployed because the orange blob pooped is no different from unemployed because we're importing from elsewhere, but at least this way the consumer has better choice.

Carney drops tariffs to 6.9% on Chinese EVs

We won't see the super-cheap models. With a limit on the sales volume, they'll focus on the higher-end higher-profit models. Also, at that sales volume, it's hard to justify setting up a new dealership network, so we'll see brands that already have one. Polestar ... Volvo ... Mini ... BMW ...

Where did your motorcycle come from ?

My R3 was assembled in Malaysia. Yamaha has a huge assembly plant there. The others came from Japan.
