    Spring snow melt - Flooding

Loads of potholes and broken pavement due to the freeze-thaw cycles, too.

What did you do in your garage today..?

It isn't really obvious, but I didn't look that hard. I'm sure a pressure test underwater would turn it up. There are quite a few areas on the old radiator with damaged fins.

What did you do in your garage today..?

Update: Fixed. I hate the price of OEM parts, but I hate aftermarket parts. The Amazon radiator had one of the spigots as an elbow pointing down whereas it should have been straight. This had to be modified because it interfered with the coolant recovery tank. I dealt with this by cutting most...

Hockey bags for lugging/storing moto gear

I use a hockey bag for transporting my moto gear on overseas trips. Helmet in its bag in the middle, gloves inside it, boots and leathers and other clothing packed around it. It's packed right now for an upcoming trip ... but that's a different subject 😁

What did you do in your garage today..?

Amazon says the new radiator has shipped, so I did the messy job of pulling the stock cooling module out. It's in rough shape, not that this surprises me one bit.

    Cutting 6mm aluminum plate

Time for a trip to Bolts Plus for compatible socket-head cap screws ... or flat-head machine screws if they have a tapered recessed head.

    Cutting 6mm aluminum plate

Aye. A hole saw isn't going to work. Drill another hole on the far side of where you want to cut out, then use a jigsaw with a small metal cutting blade to connect the existing opening to your new hole on each side, then use a file to clean up. I would do it off the bike, clamped in a vise...

What did you do in your garage today..?

I discovered a coolant leak on today's ride. Tired old bike. ZX10R with 156k on it. I've kinda suspected something's up towards the end of last season ... coolant overflow bottle filling up, sometimes seeing a stream of bubbles inside it ... thinking head gasket leak ... but it sure doesn't run...

    Cutting 6mm aluminum plate

Aluminium and grinding media usually don't play nice. It clogs up the grinding media and stops grinding in no time flat. IMO drill a small hole aligned with where you want the clearance hole, then take the part off the bike and complete the job with a hole saw. Any reasonable method of making a...

The new one that is just hitting the market now has it.

    Spring snow melt - Flooding

With this quick weather warm-up, heads up if you go out in the country. I encountered a couple of flooded roads because of the melt water, and I am sure there are more!

    Stocks

I haven't started RRSP drawdown yet ... living off dividends. Planning to start that soon, to avoid instalment payments by using the withholding tax to cover the full income tax bill over the year.

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

The recent (last 15ish years) iteration of Fiat in Canada has never had stand-alone dealers ... they've always been in Chrysler dealers.

    How`s your house pricing doing?..

This is a couple-thousand-dollar thing at the builders' construction stage with the prices that builders pay. A cold-weather heat pump would be today's choice (and this price shown is the retail price, not the builder's price): Napoleon Cold Climate Heat Pump | Premium Series 2 Ton Heat Pump...

    How`s your house pricing doing?..

What has changed in the building code since 2000 that significantly added to build cost?? I don't see anything blatantly visibly different about how they're building them now versus (let's say) my 2003-built house. It sure would have been nice to have a 240V outlet in the garage ... but to do...

    How`s your house pricing doing?..

You do not get to simultaneously complain about housing in certain parts of Canada being unaffordable while also complaining about the value of your house going down. Unaffordable housing costs are the inevitable flipside of decades of people treating their house as an investment that goes up...

    Suspension service

Couple hours of labour typically. More if you bring the complete bike and they have to remove the forks from the bike and re-assemble. It's going to vary depending upon how complex the forks are. Old school right-side-up damper rod forks with no external adjustments, really easy. Right-side-up...

    Suspension service

Appears that Ohlins recommends every 2 years or 30 000 km for street use, more frequently (unspecified) for track use. I'm, err, umm, a little beyond that on my race bike. If you stay on top of the oil changes then just an oil change should suffice most of the time, but eventually, guide...
