Yes, no GPS. I was skeptical when I bought it but it works perfectly and can go a few days without charging if you keep screen off until required. I use it for reading msgs from the wife and audio controls as I listen to audiobooks while working. I use it with an iPhone for reference.

After reading your last few comments I'd say putting this on hold is an excellent idea. Getting a dog just before winter is challenging, ask me how I know. I'd say wait until spring then revisit the topic.
