Look up the XR streetbikes that Mert Lawwill built, former AMA #1 plate holder. He road raced and flat tracked XR 750`s and was one of the 3 primary stars of " On any Sunday ", with Steve McQueen and Malcolm Smith, whom I talked to at his shop in Riverside, long ago,... " I`m not worthy". Pretty...
Did you ever see the XR 1200 race class that ran in support with CSBK? Down the backstraight at Mosport, sounded like B-17`s taking off, I had a flight in the nose of one a while ago, that`s the same kinda` visceral noise. I was lucky enough to see XR 750`s in action too, road race and flat...
Strange how that works out. When Harley introduced the XR 1200 I wanted one real bad, things soured when I saw one. I still think it`s a beautiful bike but some of the parts and construction looked almost....agricultural. Toss in failing relays and other gremlins and a plastic fuel tank that...
Back around 1980 I had the pleasure of riding in a loosely organized tour of the U.S. Southwest for a couple weeks. A company called Western Adventures, run by a guy, Volker Beer who left his position with BMW in Jersey for his start up business...
...not the DCT version. My supersport days are, being realistic, about done. Never a fan of cruisers or anything that weighs 800lbs. Wings or Road Glides...just take the car. Adventure bikes.. nope, no standing on a milk crate to climb aboard, and forget a 30 grand,500lb bike off road. I`m...
I am truly sorry for your loss. Perhaps all of us learn something here, if we need to reconcile with someone we love over something that went sideways in our lives, just take care of it. In her memory.
I`m not certain of the rules now, used to be full leathers were required if you ran sub 12`s. You could wear jeans up to a 12 second flat run. A full road racing setup is best.
Have you had the Wing out there before? The best thing about the strip is not looking around for the cops. I rode at Cayuga long ago on my `78 GS1000, my best pass was 11.78 @ 111, your Wing may be about the same. My launches, 60ft, weren`t great. You`re right...every rider should give it a shot.
I witnessed 3 guys in a Supra throw a garbage can through the window of a Shoppers Drug Mart at Warden & 7 and run in with green garbage bags, stealing smokes. We were on break at the Loblaws in the plaza, that was about 2AM in the summer of `90 or`91. One of our crew called 911 and in 60 to 90...
That looks like a lot of work for a smallish payday if you`re caught. Yeah right!! Who am I kidding? You could kill a carload of Nuns and puppies getting away and still make bail the same day. That whole system must be alarmed, lots of cops in that photo, where were they at 3AM, can`t see...
A couple years ago I had two older guys from our main garage door repair company say something similar. They were sorting out the spring on my double, main, door and said in 20 years they`d been in the garages of the majority of homes here. They said about 80% were just jammed with stuff, based...
Difficult genius madman. He left his mark on Cycle Canada print mag and on advrider too. As well as a reporter and journalist, told it like it is, a vanishing breed, never woke or apologetic. Rest in Peace Steve.
I remember Ronnie Hawkins saying " I spent a million dollars on women and booze, the rest I wasted." Another cautionary tale...I know a guy in his 70`s who blew over a million bucks gambling, in 12 years. He now lives on CPP/OAS and can`t pay his rent on his Oshawa rathole apartment and recently...
