    Retired and back to motorcycling

Fixed. Congratulations and welcome back. I left the automation-industry (mostly automotive) rat-race 3 years ago. Not having to book/schedule vacations, instead just going, is another big plus. I'm currently mulling over when and how long my next trip to Spain is going to be. Spent a week in...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

What a waste of engineering effort. Let the EV be an EV and make it a better one. That noisemaker isn't going to win over anyone who wasn't going to buy one anyhow.

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

I've seen many cases where a mass-production line was converted into a service-parts line. Usually it involves cutting out a whole bunch of automated assembly operations and keeping only the critical fabrication and assembly tooling (and relocating what's left of it from the main production...

    Hydraulic Valve Trains

Hydraulic lash adjusters? Adds weight, cost, and complexity. I think improved materials and manufacturing have largely removed the incentive for doing so. I just checked the clearances on my 2004 ZX10R after ignoring them for 60 000 km (155k on the bike) and only had to change one shim.

25k Maintenance for Ninja H2 SX SE

There might be a "check operation" in the schedule but there's nothing to be done, there's nothing to adjust, on the supercharger. Only related thing to check the operation of, is the bypass valve, and if you can hear it chirping when you shut the throttle at 8000+ rpm, it's working. Regular...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Electricity costs (for charging at home) can equally be predicted. Bear in mind that "a hardware issue" can include that 9 speed automatic transmission that an EV doesn't have. Or a CVT. Or a turbocharger. Or a high-pressure fuel pump. Or stuck piston rings from carbon deposits. Or a stuck VVT...

    Speed camera update (Sept.11)

City buses have air suspension, and they're driven by drivers who don't own the vehicle they're driving. My street recently got speed bumps, and the buses don't even slow down.

    Speed camera update (Sept.11)

If you get a ticket before end of tomorrow, you still have to pay it.

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Few people buy basic cars, even if that's all they actually need. Nissan Micra, Mitsubishi Mirage, Hyundai Accent. And now, those are gone. Few people buy work-truck F150s, either, even though that will get them where they need to go just as well as a luxury Platinum edition will. My time in...

What did you do in your garage today..?

In 3700 km it used 1.4 litres to keep it topped up ... it has been trending lower, and runs well. Let's see what reducing crankcase pressure does first ... The eventual fix will be a new bike.

What did you do in your garage today..?

Oil consumption ... which was understandable for a break-in period on new piston rings, but it should be past that.

What did you do in your garage today..?

My ZX10R is way overdue for its major scheduled maintenance. Supposed to be every 24 000 km and it's been 60 000 km (almost 156 000 on the bike). At the moment, the fairings are all off and I have the airbox off. Tomorrow will be for removing the throttle bodies and getting access to the top of...

Forks of The Credit Speed Camera

Province forcing an end to the whole thing. Instead (?) they've made the junction between Forks of the Credit Road and Scott St (Top of the hill exiting town to the north) an all-way stop. I'm sure the tremendous amount of traffic in and out of (dead-end) Scott St totally justifies that.

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Having just come back from Portugal, I saw a decent number of ID Buzzes (?) on the road there - roughly split between the passenger version and the cargo version that we don't get. Transporters still vastly outnumber them.

    Speed camera update (Sept.11)

So you block the surveillance camera's view first, then deal with the speed camera. Then they'll need a camera watching the camera that's watching the camera 🤣

Oct. 2 Wheeler's Pancake House Loop

Great destination. A bunch of us were there mid-week a couple weeks ago, and we were practically the only ones there. Limited choices for breakfast, but wow, those choices are good.

    Speed camera update (Sept.11)

Status: "Coming soon" signs still there, no camera-box observed. Maybe it's in for repair. The enclosure for the Alton one has been hit, beaten up, painted over, scraped clean, and become rusty to the extent that it was an eyesore.
