    1976 Yamaha DT400 Build

Continuing to strip down Engine #2 Everything removed from the right side It seems the support where the tach worm gear sits has been welded. I assume the original casting broke and this was the solution. I'm not sure the implications of this, if I should trust someone else's aluminum welding...

Brightside did a ton of my CT90 parts. Not the engine. But I was happy with the results and Mike's a great guy

    1976 Yamaha DT400 Build

Yesterday I started tearing down Engine #2 (a 400 as well). A previous owner had stripped the threads on the rotor where the flywheel puller screws in, so that was a major pain to pull. Luckily its getting replaced by the PowerDynamo rotor so I didn't have to be gentle. When I got the engine...

Right, which are "anthropocentric forcings." That's what the text says. Surface temp increase on many continents is due to man. A feel-good piece for sure, especially after what National Geographic has been putting out. I hope the models are as drastically inaccurate as they both feel.

Came across an interesting figure from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. This is from what they call their "fourth assessment report." Then I looked at their latest one, the fifth report. That text comes coupled with this figure, from the fifth report,

Foot pegs, rear brake lever, rear brake lever pivot, and two perches. Painted (perches will be done later) On the bike. Turns out the rear brake torsion arm that came with this frame won't work. Someone botched it together and it doesn't clear the rear tire now. So, I'll poach one from the...

So I did exactly that, vultured the pair of (good looking) thermal flow shocks from the other frame. They won't be permanent but I want to mock this thing up and make sure all is well. So I also stole my good pair of rims, which has rubber that isn't actually rotting. The kickstand works...

I picked up both frames today from CMR Racing. Both are now rock solid and back to stock. Yes, I know the shocks are mounted backwards but these frames will be stripped down again anyway. For the frame on the left, they fabricated and mounted a kickstand bracket that looks brilliant. It's a...

    1976 Yamaha DT400 Build

I needed space in my "spray booth" (liberal use of quotations). The front fender was dry to the touch, so I gingerly put it on the bike to let it fully cure there. The fender is not flawless, you can see imperfections in it (including the lip there to the left of the tubes). But, its good...

    1976 Yamaha DT400 Build

Today started with removing old tires. I have 3 sets of rims, so the worst set are designated for this rolling chassis build. This 'using the worst' has really taught me that even some terrible looking stuff can turn out great with some care. My plan is to remove the old rubber, clean the rims...

Yup, that was lazy work on my part, you are absolutely right to make that point. The US Energy Information Administration shows in Fig. ES-6 the break down of worldwide energy sources. They claim, on the same page, nonhydropower renewables accounted for 5% of total world generation in 2012...

Statements contradicting my beliefs are fine. Statements contradicting facts are where I tune out and run to source my rebuttal. And we've had this discussion before, you know I am not a climate change crusader. I just believe we should plan for the worst. And also I don't like people who...

That cuts Neil, that cuts. And I'm not gonna sit through an hour if I know he's hocking ******** at 4 minutes. I've said it before, I hope you're right and I look like an idiot in 2050. But right now, you're twisting "skeptic" into something not worthy of the title, Neil. Edit: I mean...

A lot of what he says is **** and I'm just 4 mins in Wind apparently accounts for 3% of global power, he says it doesn't register at all. Don't know where he found his breakdown at all, but I see 77.2% fossil fuel, and 22.8% renewable, with 3.1% total as wind and 0.9% as solar in 2015...

    1976 Yamaha DT400 Build

I found front reflector mounts, so my front end is now pretty well close to stock I think. My top triple is about 1/8" too high though, the fork ears still have some up-down play... What I'm liking about this build is I'm learning what to expect for the next two bikes, so they should go...

    1976 Yamaha DT400 Build

I just found oil seals that are 12mm ID, 23mm OD, and 7 and 8mm thick. So one of each of those should fit in the shock without machining. I'll give that a go first. The seals are from avxseals.com, I have no idea who they are but for 1.50$ a pop I'll take a risk.

The paint on the frame and a triple are dry, so lets start putting one of these things together. This bike, right now, is meant to become a rolling chassis. I'm using all extra, or bottom shelf parts for it, and keeping the good stuff for the other two. I need to source a 250 engine for this...
