I've never seen a battery (car, bike, or truck) hold anything higher than 13.9 V, once it's disconnected from the charging system. I'd have your meter checked. BTW - was the battery really hot after charging ?

Assuming you're not riding in really cold temperatures (pour point for both of these oils is -30 F) - I think you'd be very happy with either. My bike calls for a 10W-40 too and other than some fairly pricey synthetics, I haven't come across a 10W-40 PCMO or motorcycle specific oil, that stands...

If your dad doesn't want to pay a lot of money, he could get Mobil Delvac 1300, or Shell Rotella. These are both HDEO's and are 15W-40's. Excellent additive packages in both and a 4L jug is in the $15-$17 range.
