    Gas Pumps: Fueling

There are YouTube videos of idjits setting fire to their trucks while filling gas cans in the back, instead of putting them on the ground like you're supposed to. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, the fire goes quickly. You really, really don't want to be sitting on your bike when that...

    First commute downtown, paranoid...

Did that once last year - bike was fine afterwards. Good luck!

Guys, Please. Stay away from me.

I suppose it is possible that I might have been less forgiving of some grizzly beard on a tricked out HD... (grin)

That was crazy cool last night!!!

LOL. You pushed a button of mine, that's all. My apologies. I had an ****** refuse to yield the lane to me while I was merging onto the DVP southbound today, so it was fresh in my mind. Anyway, my only real point was that particular section of highway is always exciting. In either direction you...

Tons of respect to any riders who ride downtown Toronto!!!

I was so !$^&!* frustrated by the time I got home today - way too many stop'n'go sections, and way too many idiot drivers. But I still arrived at work with a smile, so it's all good. :)

Guys, Please. Stay away from me.

It's possible to handle these situations with dignity. Girl (with full jacket and boots but cotton shorts - commit one way or the other, eh!). Anyway, girl on a kawasaki filtered up next to me on Gerrard today. The light changed just as she got there. She started riding next to me, so I simply...

That was crazy cool last night!!!

Ha ha. OTOH there are two lanes of traffic from the left, and 1-2 lanes of traffic from the right, and the HTA requires that all parties participate equally in merging, so...

Tons of respect to any riders who ride downtown Toronto!!!

downtown is awesome in Spring / Fall. not so much in summer - between the stop'n'go traffic and the urban heat island, I arrive at work rather damp. Not that that deters me, mind you! Less fuel, free parking, and I arrive at work happy instead of frustrated - what's to complain about?

Any middle-age riders on this forum?

The wife and I are 40-somethings, but fairly busy through the summer either flying kites http://tkf.toronto.on.ca/ or riding with the local CAV http://normandy1stcav.com/. We also ride conservatively - we made an agreement with our kids to stay safe. (Seems corny when I type it, but there it is...)

Totally off topic - what are you using to record your rides?

New girl rider downtown wants your advice

I'll acknowledge any rider if a) I see them in time, and b) it's safe to take my left hand off the grip. IOW, sometimes if another rider seems to ignore you it's not personal. (Oh, and welcome! :)

Rider safety and awareness . .

While the article stresses that most accidents are chalked up to 'excessive speed', I noticed by clicking on the map icons that the second most common cause seems to be rider "struck by turning vehicle". Let's all be careful out there...

Going to try riding to work.... Temperance Parking? DVP a bad idea?

Agreed. While Richmond from DVP to Yonge can take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes randomly, the alternatives (either Gardiner to Yonge/Bay, or west on Eastern, King, Queen, Shuter, or Dundas) all seem to be worse... And whatever you do, don't get off the Gardiner at Spadina. There's often a...

Going to try riding to work.... Temperance Parking? DVP a bad idea?

Agreed! Depending on the exact time, the DVP is fast to Don Mills, fast only to Bloor, or stopped dead. My routes home are: 1) Dundas -> DVP -> Don Mills -> Sheppard 2) Dundas or Gerrard -> River St. -> Bayview -> McCrae -> ... -> Eglinton -> Leslie -> Sheppard (although the stretch of Leslie...

Since you'd be injured or dead, and they'd have a small body damage claim against their insurance, yes.

    weekend ride to montreal

it's 5 hours if you like speeding tickets! :) If you're riding it during the day (Sunday?), 323 SW from St. Jovite to Montebello is a nice drive, as is 148 on the Ottawa River north shore. I suspect the 317 (out of Thurso) is nice too, although I've never driven it. It's been about 5 years...

    found GTAM recently

I can't remember now how I ended up here (it was a Google search), but I decided to join. I've commented on a few posts already, so I thought I should introduce myself :). This is my second full year riding, and my wife's third. It's strange that I started riding so recently, because I grew up...
