do people who ride litre bikes have a lot of self control?

its my guess that most riders of litre bikes -- myself included -- have progressed from smaller street bikes over the years and have a fair amount of experience. Maybe that experience has taught us to respect the power a litre bike has, and realize it can bite you in the *** if you arent...

Overcoming Target Fixation / Maximizing Your Peripheral Vision

this target fixation thing is driving me crazy... the more i tell myself not to look at something, the more my brain WANTS to. I'll be staring directly at whatever in the road that I'm trying to train myself to look away from!!! I think I'll try 1wheeldrive's method of practice using boobs.

    What caused your crash?

+1 Elzilcho! I was the one who originally posed the question about discussing accidents including tragic ones so that we might all learn from it. On reflection, I removed it and I think your answer explains perfectly why i did.

    What caused your crash?

crashed my 75 honda CB400F after an afternoon of drinking in the sun. Amazing what passed for a good idea way back then! Any time got myself into trouble with a close call has been my own fault -- usually going too fast for the road conditions at the time or forgetting that my braking distance...

chain adjustment on or off a stand?

wow...who thought there could be so many varying ways to do it! I just do what the manual says, and on every street bike I have ever owned it said to adjust the chain with bike on the centre stand [or in the case of my old KLR, to prop it up on something ie the ever-dependable milk crate]...

    The UN-Blocking position????

I've been riding on the street for 30-some years now and was originally taught to ride in the left tire lane, although i dont ever recall it being referred to as a blocking lane. I read this thread a few days ago and it gave me things to think about. Then I went for a nice long ride the other...

chain adjustment on or off a stand?

should be done on a rear stand -- definitely not the side stand. Part of the chain adjustment process involves the entire rear wheel and axle sliding backwards incrementally [with the notches] and the notches on both sides must match up. If not, you'll have a tire thats not trued up or a tight...

    Rolling back on hills

+1 to Gary and Neil having the right foot on the brake is a good idea at ALL times when stopped regardless of whether a cage or your bike will illuminate your rear lights to lessen chance of rear-ender. The easiest way to learn going up hill without slipping back is to make use of the rear...

Can I ride without my exhaust cans?

ok... go easy on me but I'm serious: what the hell are "cans" [and i'm not talking about female anatomy]! I always thought "cans" were simply the muffler part of the exhaust system, with the baffles inside.

    Chain Adjusting

+1 for woobie reply. Dont ride it too tight --- will ruin it, or worse, snap it while riding Dont you have a manual? even if you dont, you could just google how to adjust motorcycle chain, since the process is pretty much the same for all chain drives. Just make sure the notches/marks on...
