Welcome. How come you can't get your M1 now? Also you might want to call around about insurance quotes now. I don't know how old you are or how they bracket that bike but buying a bike before getting a quote can be risky.

I tried using earphones last night around town. It's fun but I don't like how distracting it is. I think it would be a good setup for long distance riding, just not city riding (for me anyway).

What kind of headphones are you using? What you want are IEMs, in-ear monitors... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In-ear_monitor I don't have any to recommend but do a little research, something should work for you.
