Lift up your bike on a 4x4 by leaning to one side at a time. You will need 2 or 3 pieces ( one foot each ). Do it on leveled ground and you should be fine.

I developed tendinitis as well from typing without a proper wrist pad. So if you use a computer go buy a wrist pad for the mouse and one for the keyboard. On the bike I rotated the clutch and brakes levers, also invest in a $12 throttle rocker that will keep your wrist leveled while riding...
Try to fix it and if you end up breaking it then option 2. Always go for the cheaper reliable option first, if it works you save some $$ if not then there is always eBay.

+1, I was taught to do the same too by much more experienced riders. Make it a habit so that you do it automatically even when fatigued.

I seldom wear my backpack, it is always strapped with a cargo net on the passenger seat. Sometimes I will use an additional ratchet strap if too heavy.

You are absolutely right, but I can only tuck so much on a cruiser before I start having the aerodynamics of a piano falling from the 10th floor. I just loosen my shoulders and let the wind do its thing with the helmet. Next bike is a standard or touring bike for me, a more upright position...
At 80-100 km winds last season (my first season) I almost fell few times.
12000 KMs later I am ok with riding in the wind due to a post similar to this one that i read early on. Good post.

You don't need collision if you are not at fault, other driver's liability covers you. collision will only help if you are at fault.
