You can add a quickshifter onto almost any bike for around $300-400. Just find the bike you want and buy the quickshifter for it, AFAIK it's a fairly easy install but don't quote me on that because I have never tried it.
Try getting some quotes for the sport touring 600-650s such as the FZ6, FZ6R, SV650, ER6N, Ninja 650 etc, these are usually similar on insurance to the 500s.
I currently have the FZ6 and it's a bike you could keep for years without needing an upgrade.

I have a 2014 Grom in red, I've only seen 1 other Grom on the streets in person. They are out there though. Somewhere.
Oil changes every 5 or 6 hours, valve checks every 15 hours. Engine rebuilds within 10,000kms. The KTM 450's a very nice but you almost spend more time working on them than riding them.
That depends if he was talking about all Mexican Immigrants that have come to the US or just the more recent years. If you have any more information to share on this topic I would be happy to read it. But as of right now I can't say if I agree with that statement or not.
