Take it to a different mechanic, a good mechanic should be able to pinpoint the noise with the proper tools. I am only guessing, but it could be a loose spring in the clutch area or clutch dog vibrating.

If you can do your own oil changes then I would suggest you do one before you leave on your trip. It will be fine for 7-8K. When you get back you can change it again. This way you do not have to worry about finding a shop to do it for you.
