The REAL cost of owning a motorcycle…

OP: Compared to you, I spent a lot more on gear, but less on bike, insurance, etc. So overall my first year was under $10,000... My second year was very low in comparison. Buuut I'm going nuts in year 3! I started in 2009 August. So going by August as my cut off point: Year 1: $9K <-- $4K...

do ducati SS riders get more attention than other SS riders?

I get a lot of looks and people talking to me because people think my bike is a Ducati. BTW, it's a Triumph Street Triple R. I guess because it doesn't look like any other bike that it's just assumed it's a Ducati.

Post up PICS of members bikes?

I'm fine with the sound of the exhaust... it's got a good sound and it isn't overpowering. My only complaint is that exhausts make the seat heat up too much. Buuuut from what little I read so far, the ceramic coating makes the exhausts cooler.

Post up PICS of members bikes?

The more I stare at your exhaust, the more I want to get that done to mine! I wonder if there's a place around T.O that does this... Could be something for the winter. For a hooligan bike like the Street Triple, the less chrome the better. Maybe powder coat the pegs and kick stand too.

Post up PICS of members bikes?

The ceramic coating looks really nice. I pushed my mirrors forward a bit, which helps, but my arms still block most of the view. I ordered bar ends, so hopefully they do a better job. I actually didn't even realize all the other mods... like the clip ons, levers, sliders, and you took off...

Post up PICS of members bikes?

Nice bike! I got the 2012 Street Striple in crystal white... I'll post pics once done the rest of the mods. I'm installing engine covers and sliders. I got most of the fairings, so even though are bikes are nearly identical, mine will look very different. I got two questions... can you see...

    Suzuki GS500 front brake lever

When it comes to a GS500F, chances you are trying to match the colour more than the year. The bike has been identical for years. OP, try ebay and gstwins.com (almost always somebody parting out their GS) if you aren't in a hurry... If you are looking for stock and also on a budget, salvage...

Importing a Motor Vehicle To Canada (the be all end all)

Hey guys, Just brought back my new bike from the US. I had my doubts as the dealership kept reassuring me that he'll handle all the paperwork and have everything ready for me for the border. They told me to only cross at the Peace Bridge. No 72 hour notice ahead of time and I did it today...

Transporting a bike - wheel chock in rental van?

My car is a Suzuki Areio and in some other countries say 1,000lbs. I would also have to cut a giant hole in my bumper and drill holes into the frame to install a trailer hitch. Too much effort.

Transporting a bike - wheel chock in rental van?

I'll be making a trip to the US to pick up my new bike! I was originally going to go with a friend over the weekend, but the US border export office is only open during the week. This now causes all sorts of problems as originally, we were going to use his SUV and his motorcycle trailer...

    Bruised!

You would be on your toes with a 28"-29" inseam on that bike. I assume you lowered your bike... maybe another inch might help.

Importing a Motor Vehicle To Canada (the be all end all)

Most dealers say no because they don't know the right process. Only one dealer in NY and one somewhere in New England knew what I was talking about. Hopefully you can reverse those charges. Soooo... I dun goofed. I thought you can cross the border on Saturday, but I guess it has to be...

Importing a Motor Vehicle To Canada (the be all end all)

Not really according to the bill of sale... I see my Canadian address and the bike is listed as new. The dealer is an official Triumph dealer and the VIN checks out as a new bike. I even found a thread that recommended where I'm buying from for importing. I just read a bunch of Triumph forums...

    Nearly became a hood ornament

Glad you are okay OP. That could have ended really badly. Last year, I was once caught in that situation on Lakeshore. I was in the fast lane with a minivan beside me and a car ahead of me. The fast lane was moving a little faster than the middle, but my front wheel was about even with the...

Importing a Motor Vehicle To Canada (the be all end all)

Really? The Triumph dealer I'm getting mine from seems to believe you can. He even said he's done it "hundreds" of times before. Should I be worried? I can't seem to find anything on CBSA website that confirms this. I'm not doubting you, I really can't find anything that confirms this. Is...

Importing a Motor Vehicle To Canada (the be all end all)

The dealer I'm buying from says he will take care of all the paperwork and make sure the border process is smooth... but I will still badger him to make sure he has all the paperwork and that the border is notified. The dealer also said he's moved many bikes over the border and many of the...
