    1969 Honda CT90

I was road tripping through California, passed right by a huge distributor of Lifan engines (PCC motor). Couldn't say no. US$280 got me a 125cc manual clutch, with intake manifold, carb, cdi and ignition coil. Another $50 or so got me a Lifan clone CT70 exhaust made for this engine. The engine...

    Sanitizing History???

I think holding historical figures to today's standard is ridiculous - Robert Lee (or Cornwallis in Halifax) were a product of their times. That being said, I don't think they deserve statues. Let the statues be for the ones we don't have to give context for. Anything else is glorifying...

Noob getting bored, happened to anyone ?

Depends how you look at it, yea the physical act of riding around etobicoke won't be very interesting. What I grew to love was long rides (not 400 series), exploring, seeing new towns and stuff. It puts you there in a way that a car doesn't, it makes it more memorable (at least for me) Go get...

    Honda C90

Oh 100% can still be a hooligan. First thing I did on my 90 was accidentally wheelie it down the street in low-range. Compared to what I was expecting, the thing pulls like a damn tractor I agree totally with the comment in the video that it feels fast even though it isnt. Going along, you are...

Transmission stuck in gear after mating case halves

In case anyone down the road ends up here with similar trouble, here is the answer I posted in my build thread: The culprit was the stopper bolt, parts 9 through 12. It helps the shift drum stay in gear. The assembly was so gummed up that the stopper was stuck, and wouldn't allow the shift drum...

    1976 Yamaha DT400 Build

The culprit was the stopper bolt, parts 9 through 12. It helps the shift drum stay in gear. The assembly was so gummed up that the stopper was stuck, and wouldn't allow the shift drum to rotate at all. I popped it in the vise to compress the stopper down. This photo was taken after I...

    Almost crash ...

Good on ya Brian. Glad you didn't get hit. It's nice when others do their part while on the road, but sometimes it comes down to you and some good reflexes to make up for someone else's mistakes (or entitlement?) I like how purposefully vague and veiled this is

Transmission stuck in gear after mating case halves

Both the main shaft and drive shaft bearings are held in place with retainer plates (#14 and #29), and both bearings have retainer clips as well (#13 and #31), which is why I assume the bearings must be seated properly. I think you're right though - seems like something isn't seating right...

    1976 Yamaha DT400 Build

So I pulled the DT engine cause it won't shift. Yay fun Fiddled with the trans, it shifted fine through all gears with the case halves split Put it together and nope, won't change gear. Same as before. I made pleas on the yamaha enduro forum as well as the tech section here. Hopefully...

Transmission stuck in gear after mating case halves

This is a copy of a post I just made on yamahaenduro.com - but I figured maybe someone here may be able to advise Hey everyone, I've been working on a 1975 DT400 engine for a while now. Every time I join the cases, I can't shift gears. It's stuck in a gear. The shift drum has a few degrees...

    1976 Yamaha DT400 Build

Sorry, I just saw this now! Thanks! That's very kind of you I haven't been doing too much work on the bikes lately, but today I pulled the clutch cover on the DT to see why it won't go in to gear. I pulled out the clutch and shift linkage so it was just the bare shift drum head. It seems like...

    1969 Honda CT90

Thanks! And yes, in retrospect I probably should have gone with a louder paint scheme. I think for my first "resto", I wanted to stay on the safer side. I do like the red Honda used, I believe they call it "Tahitian red"

Passing safety after an engine swap?

Thanks everyone! If the tech gives me grief I could always put the original back in I suppose, no real hurry anyway. Maybe a small block v8??? The Lifan is 125cc of absolute fury, looking at 8hp up from 6 on the 90cc  It seems to me insurance will already be the nightmare of all...

Passing safety after an engine swap?

Not sure if this is a dumb question or not, but would I have any trouble passing a safety without the original engine? I'm considering putting a new Lifan motor in my CT90 project.

    1969 Honda CT90

Haven't done much work on the 90 in some time, unfortunately, life gets in the way. It was starting to collect dust (literally) in the garage so I took it out today to give it a wash. Next time I'll actually use one of my motorcycle covers  Last time we had it out, a friend and I took it...

    Honda C90

I think only a handful of people have done the whole trail coast to coast so far, the "completed" (mapped) trail is relatively new I think, only a few years old. Jeez that must be amazing though. But yea, the 90 has made me fall in love with the lightweight bikes for sure. It helps that mine...

    Honda C90

Yep, basically a string of trails (mostly dirt) that go from east to west coast, I believe its 15,000 km. You can email the people from graveltravel.ca and they'll send you a gps file for the whole thing. It's always on the back of my mind when working on the CT90 and DT400 :)

    Honda C90

If you don't care about it being titled, usually there are tons in the US on craigslist etc. There is a facebook group called Honda CT 90 Owners, very active community and they will frequently post craigslist ads for bikes (90s and 110s) If you want a titled one here, you could get a CT90 and...

    Honda C90

I watched the cross-Canada part, couldn't decide whether I was rooting for them or not. Mostly thought they were idiots for doing it in the winter. But I guess everyone balances risk/adventure differently I got a CT90 and want to do part of the TCAT on it, so it was sort of inspiration there...
