Please sign my petition to allow straight pipes in Ontario for rider safety

I was thinking some more about this whole annoying thing and thought I'd add this. An interesting factoid for me occurred a couple of weeks ago while driving my car. I was behind two morons with straight pipes for about 5 minutes until I decided their annoying me was not to be tolerated and I...

    Spirited Group Rides...

Yes, they do. You may want to check into that a bit more before you find yourself in un-informed trouble. I.e. an off ramp from the 401 has a speed limit of 100 kph with a, typically, suggested speed of 40 kph. Although you don't need to comply with the 40 kph there is still a limit. Also...

Please sign my petition to allow straight pipes in Ontario for rider safety

Is this for real? Tell ya what, I'll sign your petition for straight pipes when you sign my petition for free hearing aids, ear protection, window replacement, spilled drinks and other impacts of thoughtless morons riding around with straight pipes on their motorcycles because they haven't the...

how often do you change your face shield?

I get about 3 - 4 years, typically. I clean mine after every ride with a soft cloth and cleaning solution. But, I don't get many stone chips in the face as I don't tend to ride in much traffic. Most of my impacts are bugs. This is with a Shoei. My Shark was even more durable.

So I got rear ended on the 401/400 south ramp :(

Ah! In that case, it just seems that TPS just isn't doing anything about it. Not exactly a surprise but disappointing considering the potential severity of the situation.

So I got rear ended on the 401/400 south ramp :(

Unless I missed it, I don't think the OP reported to police, despite all the advice in this thread. He/she is dealing through insurance only, IIRC. So far as witnesses go, people are sheep. No one will step up unless everyone else is. I've seen a number of accidents where no one will do...

how do car drivers act around you?

I find the "what's faster - car or bike?" thing has lots of uninformed people (not necessarily IQ). My bike is faster than nearly any car. But my car is faster than many bikes. And it isn't always easy to tell what is under the hood of that sedan or coupe beside you at the light. You may be...

Decline of group rides (quantity) and how do you cope with it?

+1. Except, I am older and have no desire to attract attention with loud pipes or anything else. I'm pretty happy just being me, I don't need others to see/hear how "awesome" I am to make me happy. And in winter, I drive fast in snow and spin out on curves. Far safer than riding. :)

how do car drivers act around you?

I'm not sure what your uncle's "back in the day" was, but I've never seen or heard anyone actually do this in 35 years of riding in Southern Ontario. I've heard lots of bar talk about it, but nothing about an actual occurrence. I do know of one or two folks that busted a mirror off with their...

Am I the only crazy1? SS and a cruiser simultaneously.

Count me with those that find SS far more comfortable than cruisers. Or sport tourers, for that matter. I can ride 12 hour days on my SS. My sport tourer had my butt on fire after 8 hours. My back is in agony after 30 minutes on a typical cruiser. Storage is a factor. But I prefer the lack of...

BMW S1000RR Owners - Tell me what you know!

Viccont - actually, new in 2010, not 2009. I haven't noticed heat radiating off the bike in traffic. But, I usually wear leathers. It is less hot then my CBR was in traffic. Now that I recall there was talk on the forums of a few motors exploding on the earliest models. I dunno if it was ever...

BMW S1000RR Owners - Tell me what you know!

I'm not in the least offended by you. I'm merely pointing out that this is nothing new from you. You don't like the S1000RR. I think everyone understands that. But you NEED to take every opportunity to say it. Again. And again. And again. And again. I do happen to like the Ape VERY MUCH. You...

    Listening to music while riding?

If you're relying on hearing the giant SUV about to run you down from behind, you're screwed. To the OP: 1. Yes, they do. 2. No, it is not against the law.

BMW S1000RR Owners - Tell me what you know!

I can't even read Shaman's responses on this anymore. For three years he's done nothing but piss and moan about how awful the BMW is and how wonderful the Ape is. I've had an S1000RR new since April 2010. I have 36,000 kms to date. Maintenance is about the same from a dealer as my Honda's...

Is a Harley 883 sportster a chick bike?

Put some rearsets on that and you have a nice looking ride. Most people that find SS uncomfortable don't know how to ride them. Their arms are locked and all the weight is on their wrists. I can ride one for 12 hour days, day after day. A typical cruiser I last 20 minutes before my back and...

Chain Lube suggestions for a long trip

I usually ride solo so I use a piece of wood - 2 x 2 x12" - that I prop under the offside spool on the swingarm. Easy. Also doubles as a tent peg mallet and can be used to crack walnuts too. And it just tucks under a bungee cord so takes nearly no space. And I use the Dupont stuff too.

Hand and wrist pain after a few hours

It isn't about how hard you grip the tank, it's about how much weight is on your wrists. You should be able to take your hands off the bars with no change in your body position. If there is ANY change in body position when you take your hands off the bars, you aren't doing it right. Most people...

    Scary thought...

Don't bet on the slowing down thing. I ride faster now (and safer) than I ever did when younger.

    Scary thought...

I've been riding since 1978. Every time I get on the bike I visualize what could happen if... It keeps me aware, keeps me focused, keeps me prepared and keeps me out of trouble. I do the same thing driving, riding a bicycle, walking down the street, going into a bar etc. Some people think I'm...

Full leather for street riding stupid?

Sure about that? Experienced riders won't ride in the deserts of the US midwest in mesh. The hot wind over your body dehydrates you in minutes with very severe repercussions. There's also a reason Beduin don't wear wife beaters and shorts. And too, those that ride in t-shirts and shorts in hot...
