Do you need to do the four year dealie before getting certified by the PEO if you're an immigrant with previous qualifications? That could be seen as a pretty frikkin significant barrier if you move here in your middle age.

Amen to this. Knew an "architect" from Jamaica who ******* for years about not being able to get work here because he wasn't certified. (I dont' even know if this is true! lol) Let's face it..the standards are NOT the same everywhere. And to be fair....a masters in engineering would make it...

Problem is...retail is diversified enough that going through comp. bureau wouldn't result in much. Loblaws is the largest food distributor in North America. In a country that's 1/10th the size of the US. Yet it would be almost impossible to pin them with a price fixing suit.

That's a right hand...left hand thing. Right hand (immigration) prioritizes these people who have skilled backgrounds...then the left hand (Medical organizations like the OMA) prevent them from practicing. It's messy.
