I say do it. You most likely won't regret it. I recently made a similar transition... Upgraded to my 2nd (700) bike from my first bike (400) and haven't looked back. I loved my first bike, but I don't miss it. The new bigger, faster bike is filling that role just fine. You mentioned your 40s so...
