I practice in parking lot of town's hockey arena on the weekends. Always empty in summer.
GO train lot was always good on weekends as well as there was no weekend service
Second the recommendation for this book. Also a good read is "mastering the ride" by the same author. Good books to read through each year while waiting for the April snow to melt
And tar snakes when it gets hot - a very uncomfortable feeling when the back tyre slides on one of them.
I also start to re-read David Hough's books round about now to get ready for the start of riding. Mastering the Ride / Proficient Motorcycling
my wife shopped with me and picked out her own engagement ring -two months later the CEO of the company was quoted as saying that his stores only sell overpriced cheap stuff. Didn't bother her at all. We will celebrate 24 years of marriage on Monday
I had heard that in China the idea when driving is that everyone else has to watch out for you - not you being sure it is safe to proceed. So if you want to pull out then you just do it and oncoming traffic would be prepared for it.
Rode yesterday lunchtime to renew plates for cars and bike. Had to replace plate on wife's car and new ones start BYKR. Those should have been mine dammit !
if I am the one turning right on red then I always wait for the left turn filter people - even if it is one lane into two. I don't trust the left turners not to drift across to the wrong lane
Couple of weekends ago was out early passed a deer stood at side of road when riding river road. Short time later had family of deer cross in front of me while riding though Dunedin.
In England you often see signs outside houses near football grounds saying " POLITE - No Parking". They are white text on blue background so at first glance seem official.
Some insurance companies only go by size of bike and years of experience , others take licence level into account. you should call to check - who knows your rate may go down.
On one of my first ever rides , Vstar 250 with Spitfire windscreen, I took a left turn far too wide - realised I was about to hit curb and grabbed front brake way too hard. Sudden stop had me hitting windscreen and breaking it . Had to dismantle at side of road while suffering questioning looks...
my son's computer lost all sound when upgrading to windows 10 - used option to step it back to 8 but it left some drivers behind that caused other issues. Sorted it all out by manually replacing drivers.
will be waiting a few months before updating all the PC in the house
Totally agree about riding early. Can ride Hockley, the forks anywhere really if you are out by 6 am. I started riding early when I was first riding and wanting to get more experience. The habit just stuck and having read the threads on crowds n Forks and River road in the PM I am glad it did
