It's unfortunate but with how insurance is here in Ontario, especially with motorcycle insurance, you're probably better off to eat the repair yourself, than to make a claim (even at a total loss of 3K). Especially if you plan on riding anytime in the next 6+ years after the accident.

It is 100% true. There is no reason for a plate to be kinked/show signs of being bent other than the person has bent it up in the past. It's a clear sign to me that I don't want to be riding/associated with that person as a rider. I once got stopped years back at a single officer RIDE...
